EDF Flextras

25 hours per month free is a lot worse than 16 hours per week.
Does it only start from today, or will I be undermined by loading my peak use last week?

I can’t find anything about weekend saver in my EDF flextras
Apparently the weekend saver is not available to customers on EV tariffs

So, I downloaded the EDF app and signed up to Flextras. It seems as though we can't start earning free electricity until October. It is also inconsistent as it mentions the fixed bands for lower peak electricity but then also references personalised targets.
Frankly, if it's too complicated then I just won't bother and any free electricity I get will be a bonus.
It also provided the Tastecard which might very well be the only thing less useful than EDF Flextras - while there are some fair brands of dining options, the locations offered are only central London. I can't be doing with travel into town just for a bit of a saving on a meal out. It will cost money to get there and take a load of time, plus central London venues often start more expensively initially to then get the discount off.

First challenge starts in October, sign up for September is open now. Hours have been reduced but we can now choose when we redeem them. We can select 1 or more Saturday or Sundays.
Happy with the tastecard, it has local restaurants where I am. Hated having to get up in the early hours so I didn't miss out on First come first served deals with Octopus. Just need to keep the wife away from the house between 4-7. 6ish hours a weekend averaged enough to charge the car and more!

Yep that's in the terms. 👍
Web search gives this https://www.edfenergy.com/energy-efficiency/sunday-saver-challenge

It is still conflicting.
First it says everyone has the same target but then a personalised challenge baseline.
I am trying to work out whether to target high peak use during September to get a favourable challenge.

First it says everyone has the same target but then a personalised challenge baseline.
I'm only guessing here, but both those things could be true.
Yes everyone needs to minimise their 4-7pm usage. But they'll tell everyone individually how much electricity they've been using in that period, so they know what % they're starting from and have an idea of how big a change they need to make.

Aaah, yes, I see now.
The target for everyone is 9% to get the maximum, but the baseline could be used for messaging, along the lines of "Keep going as you are and the maximum hours of free electricity are in the bag" or "Push a little and you could secure your first free hours"

I've reviewed the new offer and summarised below why it's a lot worse than the Sunday Saver that used to run:
Sunday Saver: You could earn up to 16 hours a week, every Sunday. There are either 4 or 5 Sundays in each month so the potential earnings of free electricity was 64 or 80 hours each month.
When the Sunday Saver offer ended it was announced that the new scheme would be "better", but it's far from it.
With the new Flextras offer being announced yesterday your new maximum is 25 hours of free electricity each month.
When calculated against the old offer this means that:
There is a -64% (or -69% if 5 Sundays in a month) reduction in the maximum potential reward now compared to Sunday Saver.
I'm surprised this was launched, especially with so much renewable spare capacity available at the moment. EDF have made a great offer, worse.
Joe Souto is the Retail Director who has signed this off and i've emailed him directly to share my opinion. You should too joe.souto@edfenergy.com1 -
When the Sunday Saver offer ended it was announced that the new scheme would be "better", but it's far from it.
Well, "better" is a matter of perspective. If it is not "better" for the customer, maybe EDF meant "better" for the company.
It is not "better" for me as I won't get to charge my car for free virtually all the time. Others may not have the same use profile so will possibly gain a greater saving than they were previously able to achieve.
The old Sunday Saver did have a significant flaw in that, for me at least, any months when I was not enrolled, I would set the car to charge specifically between 4 pm and 7 pm so that my baseline was high making reduction targets easier to achieve when I was enrolled the next month. From any external perspective, that was complete nonsense.
One big way that the new scheme is "better" is that I have been trying to leave EDF for ages because of their appalling service levels but the SS scheme meant it was quite financially attractive to tolerate all the failings of EDF and stick around. Now there is not such a scheme, I might just as well take the opportunity to try to move on - assuming EDF don't run their previous tricks to block a transfer.
