Many reviews indicate that it only gives more of a 'top up' recharge to your phone than fully charges it. Is that your experience?

That'll depend...

If the phone has a 5000 mAh battery, and it's totally flat and it's being used while charging, then it'll never charge the phone fully.

Amazon. I needed one with built in charging cables and as it will be used for more than phone charging the extra capacity was useful.

Stick to branded products, power banks are notorious for claiming absurd capacities like the no-brand torches with '10 million' candle power.

Well, looking at the Belkin and the Anker models I linked upthread, I think the Belkin might just have the edge as the inbuilt cable does power in and power out whereas the Anker seems to need an extra cable to charge.

Then again, the Anker brand seems to be more highly recommended.

The anker uses that built in cable to fast charge if you have the usb-c adapter plug for it. They are both good brands though, in my experience.
