To be fair it was after 30 day returns window but we still thought it was a shame that 'computer said no' rather than them letting us buy a more expensive alternative from them having returned an item they were still stocking for the same price that was still in packaging. Just the world we live in sadly but we won't be making any major purchases from them again

It's always a bad sign when shops start selling items from 'trusted Sellers'. Like the whole point of buying from a specific shop is so you don't have to wade through all the junk

I have done more strimming. One battery-ful is about right timewise for what I can manage!

I've also started organising the cupboard in the downstairs loo as it has been converted from office cupboard (when the room was an office) to cleaning cupboard.

And I am halfway through changing a door handle (and have just remembered that I have two others to do as well) but have stopped for coffee.

More importantly I have emailed environmental health pointing out the issues with monitoring the nuisance smoke from a neighbour given they want a two week record from the date of the complaint but they also tell him there has been a compliant so he stops being a nuisance. And I've emailed a financial planner to see whether they can help me. I've got another one to contact if that doesn't work out.

Electrician has been paid and a snagging list/few more things list provided.

Builders materialised as they're back tomorrow and needed to measure for skirting today. Not sure why they didn't measure last time they were working here. They mentioned maybe needing to cut MDF inside and I've said absolutely not. I can take my car out of the garage and they can use that, but not in the house.

Having said that, I have had a good experience with Debenhams. The product bought was flimsy junk but they were happy to refund me without a quibble, and the returns process was easy enough.

I have a new task to add to my to-do list. Find someone to figure out why the bedroom window started leaking at 3 am. It's a velux window so my first thought was that the seal had gone which would be a relatively easy fix I think. But the water is coming in between the edge of the window frame and the roof so I think it might be a roofer issue. Of course it was raining albeit not dreadfully hard. But the clouds had been blowing in the wrong direction earlier in the day so it may just be a random one off. Or the flashing (or whatever you call it) above the window has gone doolally.

Sorry but I think its optimistic to hope that its a one-off! Its going to be a wet and miserable week, so you'll find out soon enough. Check your guttering is clear, its a task that doesn't cost anything if you can climb a ladder.

@Rosa_Damascena I also had a good returns experience with Debenhams but all I ever hear about regarding them is people having to return things! I don't even bother looking at their stock when I'm searching for something anymore. I bought my mum PJ's last Christmas and they were an insane size and absolutely covered in someone else's hair

Listed some paint that wasn't needed for build.

Will try to do some more this week. The enormous pile of build leftovers to flog has been on the list for nearly three months now

The window is above the guttering so that's not the issue. It's the roof, the window itself or the connection between the 2. And it would take more than one ladder to reach the window being a velux. But someone who knows how to look at these things might manage by poking their head up through the window to see what's happening above it.
