I fed the animals, wormed the dogs, stuck a hook on the front door ready for the wreath, then wondered why I was up and active at 8am so went back to bed 😆

I'm about to get up for the second time today and I have a long list of potential tasks and oats to tackle. Just have to decide whether to do a few small ones or one big one.

We decided that since the country is being warned about things like electricity going off we should put up a shelf while we have power for drill 🙄😁

Completely agree. When we had our new boiler installed a couple of years back the installer told me when he'd finished that he'd managed to break one of the roof tiles (boiler is in a cupboard outside the kitchen door, so practically outside…). He then added that he knew a great roofer and would contact him to come and fix the tile in the next day or two at no charge to us of course. The roofer showed up the next morning and fixed the tile while it was absolutely tipping down. Brilliant service so now that we're having trouble with a leak above one of the velux windows I'm going to be contacting him to help us sort it. After the storms have mostly passed us by…

I got the special Halloween plate and ornament out of the attic. Also brought my electric blanket down in preparation for winter.

I got my massive accordion file out and went through all the paperwork from my mortgage trying to find out about boundaries and access. Nothing in them, which is kind of a good thing but I still need to double check with the council.

I also got rid of some old bank statements while I was in the file.

I tried but mostly failed to reconnect everything to the new WiFi. I've managed to connect my phone, a plug for the lamp, and the TV so it's a start.

I pulled everything out of the mystery sock drawer. A couple of super thick pairs went back in, a few long but not thick pairs went into the daily rotation drawer, and a larger number of pairs went into a pile for the charity clothing bin.

Not quite the big jobs I was hoping to tackle but not bad for an afternoon.

@Rhyddid2026 do you have a printed copy of your plan? You can order one from Land Registry but note that the one with boundaries is not the one you can download...

@Rhyddid2026 - I empathise with having to deep clean the house when a tradesperson comes over. Its hard enough doing when you are expecting guests that you actually want to see, but I really resent the time it takes to clear up to allow tradeperson to access an area. (I speak as someone who has undertaken big building projects in the past. Much as I loved my builders I was glad to both have the place to myself and be able to use my time as it pleases me). Am always happier after its done though!

@millie - looks like the lower branches of the monkeypuzzle tree were drooping, possibly indicating a rotten tree? The rest looks healthy enough though.

So much to read, so little time.

@Floss I went on the land registry site a few days ago but it's not showing on there either.

We have gates between the gardens of the houses in my street and when I bought the house I was told it was some old access rights that meant the gates had to stay. The gate at the bottom of my garden is noted on the paperwork (leads to unused land and brambles now but used to lead to a lane to the old school) but neither of my side gates are on the paperwork so far. One side gate leads from the road at the front up my side alley to my garden. The other side gate leads to my neighbours garden and he has one leading to his neighbour etc (I'm the end of the terrace and would have been the house next to the old school when it was there).

I think this is the trouble with old semi rural houses, really old strange boundaries and laws. If it's not on paperwork and no longer enforceable then fantastic! But I want to check everything I can before I do something that could get me into trouble.

I'm going to try contacting the local councillor who's family have lived in the area for hundreds of years.

Is there anything on your deeds? Or within the legal documentation? I once owned an end terrace with an access lane up the side & across the back between the houses & their gardens so know how you feel!

I am slowly cleaning up all the stuff I brought in from the patio and getting the plant room organised so as much as possible that I need easily accessible can go in there. The stuff for the shed will be packed up to move into the shed when the wind stops blowing.
