Potting shed ‘junk’ taken to the tip! 👏 It is remarkable how bulky it all is …
Made a start on planting out daffodils, crocus, wallflowers and sweet Williams ready for next spring 😊
EDIT: I forgot one … Bought and potted up garlic cloves for next year’s season 😊 🧄

Any advice to an absolute beginner on how to pot up garlic? Where’s best to keep it? What works well for you?
I normally just bung something in & hope 🫣 that did work out ok for my potatoes 😉 not sure that’ll wash with anything else though.. 🤣Thanks in advance.. ☺️

Pootle off to a garden centre soonish and buy a garlic that you like the look of - I generally buy two types. Turn the packets round and look at the size of the bulbs and give them a gentle squeeze - they should feel firm and solid.
Break the cloves apart (just the same as if you were cooking with them, but don’t completely strip them of their papery skin or remove the base plate of each clove where the roots come from). Check them for mould or rot and discard anything that is too small or soft. Most people put them straight in the ground. Frances on GW last night planted them a couple of inches deep.
I prefer to pot them up first (3” pots) so I know that each clove is growing well before I give it a garden space. It also means that every plant gets a little dose of compost in the planting hole in my desperately infertile soil. I tend to plant them out when there are green shoots c. 2 inches tall or more importantly I’m just starting to see roots in the bottom of the pot.
It’s important that the plants get frosted - that’s what stops them being one huge clive and split down into smaller ones.Keep them weeded 😊 Harvest when the leaves droop and yellow, usually in July.

I'd planned on planting my garlic this weekend but the weather has had other ideas! Although as it has rained for the last couple and days and more forecast today it should be easy to plant tomorrow with everything nice and soft. I just push them in so they are just covered. Just hope we get some very cold nights over the coming months to ensure they split. Doesn't always happen here living near the coast as we don't tend to get frosts which are ideal for garlic.

Decluttered some of the alcohol cupboard yesterday, took a few bottles I'll never drink to the party I went to.
I'm counting socialising as an OAT completed as I rarely do it and should definitely do it more.
I also boiled ten eggs for dog snacks.
I cleaned the coops yesterday in case I was delicate today so no need to do anything urgently, I'll be mostly resting and recovering, anything else is a bonus.

Wildflower seeds sown just before the rain started. Hopefully they'll appreciate it (and get settled in before the wildlife finds them).
Dog is very grumpy about the lack of walks, but I'm feeling pretty grim after my jab AND it's raining now. He's currently curled up in a cat bed… which is good going for a big labrador!

Well done everyone, you’re all doing so well with your tasks!
Blimey it feels chilly outside today! I did some garden tasks this morning but now intend to have a very lazy afternoon browsing Pinterest, and I’ll light the wood burner soon.
I’ve cut back more of the overgrown hedging, so now my white garden border is twice as deep which is very satisfying. I’ve planted more white narcissi and crocuses in it, and have chopped the hedge cuttings into tiny bits for compost bins. I’m pleased with this as I rarely put enough woody stuff in the bins to keep the balance right.
I’ve also added a few more snowdrops and mini iris bulbs in the rock garden, and scattered more grit and small stones around. I’ve given it a lot of thought, and have decided to add a couple of little solar lights to it. On my list for next week.
I’ve at last mended the latch on the side gate (a screw needed replacing, it was a 30 second job. It’s taken me a year to get around to it ☹️), chopped a stack of logs and filled the log basket ready for the fire being lit, made a pan of leek and potato soup for this week’s lunches, and used up some ingredients from the fridge to make a mushroom stroganoff and four minced chicken/red onion/chilli/coriander burgers for the freezer.

Fabulous work everyone 🥂
We have finally sold the oven that didn't fit that argos wouldn't let us return, which is a big relief and one thing at least we can tick off of build list!

Finally got around to digging properly through the piles of stuff in the loft to find our last bag of coats and jackets. This has obvs revealed a ton more things that need sorting, but the jackets were driving me particularly mad!
Also finally did de-hairing, cleaning, and pouring boiling water down the shower traps and sinks. One of the worst household jobs in the world
