Brummiebabe, your not alone, my 7 month old is doing the same. I struggle to get him to eat savoury things i've made, but yet he'll happily eat what's on my plate. I just put a baby bite size in his mouth, he opens up like a little bird. He also doesn't seem in terested in breakfast, he has a 5oz bottle around 7am and I give him breakfast about 8am, but unless its yog or predominantly yog, he won't have it. I've tried porridege, weetabix, baby porridge all NO's. His breakfast usually consists of about 3-4 mouthfuls then no more.

I worry about his eating too, i know babie younger than him eating and drinking twice as much with relish and I wonder if the fact i waited until he was 6 months to start is the problem. The early weaners seem to eat anything incl purees.

I am a loss sometimes too.

Just doing the best we can. I've bought a suction bowl this week, i think i'll give that a go with toast too. He eats it, but more out than in.

Hi Bailey - remember when we used to post on the pregnancy thread??? Seems like AGES ago now!!!!!

I know I'm not alone in this, and it does help to hear from others struggling with the same issues!!

Re: early weaning - both my DSs were weaned at around 16 weeks (well....13-14 weeks actually:o ) and were fantastic eaters!!! They ate anything!!!!! I don't, personally think this late weaning has helped, however, DD is very different and was definately not ready for solids at 4 months!

What's concerning me of late is that she's drinking less milk. She'll have around 4 oz (max) at 6am (after sleeping for 10 - 11 hours!!), has 2-3oz mixed with her breakfast, has kind of dropped her 10am 4 oz feed. She'll then have around 4 - 5 oz at 2.30pm and normally 6oz at bedtime!! Oh - hang on, that's around 18oz on a good day - isn't that about right?

I haven't tried feeding her off my plate - that might be something else to try!!:D

Re the pizzas, Pitta bread pizza goes down well with ds, as did potato wedges. My baby gets better food than me, lol, and half the time it ends up on the floor!!

Do you just put tomato puree & cheese on the pitta bread then toast it???

With potato wedges - do you use olive oil then roast in the oven??

    Sorry to sound dumb:rotfl:

    Not dumb at all:p

Pizza, just lightly toast one side then puree and cheese, as baby gets older you can put pepper etc on it (its delish, i make one for ds and one for me:o )

I did the wedges for the first time yesterday, i blasted a potato for 3 mins in the microwave, chopped it into wedges, put a bit of olive oil on the tray and the potato and cooked in teh oven for about 40 mins on gas mark 5. He had pie and mushy peas with them, he wouldnt eat from his bowl either, it had to be from my plate and my fork:confused: :rotfl:

  • Bit off topic but I just had to say this. DH fancied angel delight for pud and we'd run out, so I have just been back from Tesco, got there at 9.30. Spent £15.93, got it reduced to £12.53 with coupons, but included in that shop were:-

    3 x very large finest cheese/tom pizzas normally £2.99 each - 10p each
A pirates of the carribbean birthday cake normally £7.99 - 10p
3 x ready to eat fresh mixed fruits normally £1.99 - 10p each
2 boxes of barn eggs £1 something - 10p each

I reckon those items alone would cost about £25 and I spent 90p. Wow.

Hubbies challenged was to make room in the freezer!!

Pizza for tea tomorrow.......I might save some for Jack's lunch.

Let us know if he enjoys the pizza, ds sucks the cheese and puree off and most of the base/bread ends up on the floor!!

  • Brummiebabe your right, it does all seem an age away and now we are battling with weaning!

We bought a mattress for the cotbed we were given today. We thought it was time to put Jack in it as he fidgets and wriggles so much at night, we began to wonder if he had enough room. He gets himself in all sorts of positions and we were wondering if that is why he is waking up at 4am.

We had to reorganise his room to fit it in as he's in the shoebox room. He was grinning at me at bedtime and been in a giggly mood all afternoon, but now he's asleep he looks lost in his big bed. My little lad is growing up.

I also had to buy a fitted cotbed sheet as we needed it today. I'm going to look for spares in ebaby, as I had to pay £10 for 1!!! But we couldn't go home without it.

Jack won't eat savouries from a weaning pot and spoon, yet from my plate he will happily take little pieces of ham/cheese toastie, ham and cheese jacket spud, breaksticks and cucumber from Daddy. He'll get pizza on Monday from our dinner tomorrow and see how that goes. He does pull some funny faces though when its not what he's expecting. He tends to suck the food soggy then swallow it. He hasn't any teeth yet, 7 months and still waiting, but that's fine, the later the better. My MIL said hubbie cut his in 4's and relatively painlessly, not sure if that's rose tinted glasses or not.......

Blimey, I must stop prattling and get to bed.

Perhaps dad needs a weaning pot and spoon too? Children do like to copy what they see - it would also make an amusing photo!

Some success to report (but I'm not getting too excited!!)

Decided to forget the purees altogether. Gave DD a cheese sandwich for her lunch - she managed to eat most of it!!!!! Then gave her sweet potato & apple for dinner (admittedly, one of her favs) but I just mashed it a little with a fork - (it was really quite lumpy) and she ate it - no problems!!

I'm going to carry on like this I think, just mashing her meals a little, and see if this will make a difference.
