About 8 months of age my dd decided that she didn't want any food from a spoon, unless it was pudding, and then only if she had a spoon in her hand as well.
What I did was cook her a selection of veg, eg potatoes, carrots, parsnips, squash. I cut them into half inch or so cubes, and put a selection on the highchair tray in front of her. I also gave pieces of chicken, cheese, fish, cod roe (dry fried). I found that she ate lots. She was really good at feeding herself these meals.
I also was worried at first that she wouldn't eat enough, but she really did eat plenty, as long as she could feed herself.
You could try this way, some ends up on the floor though!

This is great advice..thanks. I have been giving her eg small pieces of cheese, fruit etc and she seems to like it..maybe just need to do this with all veg etc and see how she goes?

my 8 month old loves eggy bread as well.
have you tried not giving purees at all, and just giving finger foods and lumpy food? my DD isn't keen on purees but wolfes back lumpy food. if your DD wont eat puree maybe she dosn't like the texture and would prefer proper food. at 8 month she should be capable of eating lumps so that might help.

I have tried making the purees less smooth...but she doesn't seem to like that much either....have not tried making it lumpy though, maybe this might work...worth a try!!

Try eating the same food as your child, at least for breakfast and lunch. If it helps, use the same plate, never mind that some people think it is uncouth - that's how people have eaten for majority of the time humans have been around.

We have used the Annabel Karmel recipes in our household for 11 years now and we're still cooking them. The only thing I don't like about the woman is her terrible hair style!

DS is 9 months and is going through a fussy stage. It has coincided with him crawling, hes just not interested in food atm, he'd rather climb on me or crawl all over.

Ideas for finger foods - baby sweetcorn, sugarsnap peas, pasta twirls, any fruit/veg that can be chopped into chip shapes (easy to grip) asparagus etc.

My Little one is a couple of weeks older than yours, and he has eaten well up to now, but he is also become quite fussy. I've got him a bowl with a sucker on the bottom and today i gave him some carrot sticks and cubes of cheese, followed by a yoghurt.

He much prefers the finger food now, so i will be giving him bits of toast with cheese spread, fruit loaf, he likes raisins, he loves the organix snacks, but i don't want to give him too many of these, he's quite good with fruit chunks.

To be honest, i'm thinking of giving him a sandwich made of one bit of bread rolled up, or potato wedges, pizza sticks.

He's quite good with his chewing to say he only has 4 teeth.

My sister thinks i should give him a spoon, although i am reluctant to lose control at the moment.

My DD has NO teeth yet!!

She also loves the organix snacks - but I feel like I'm giving her crisps (although I KNOW they're made from veg:rotfl: )

Know what you mean about the spoon - although in desperation to get her to eat something (anything!!) - I have tried to get her to feed herself with her spoon- she can't/won't at the moment (although I know it won't be long!!)

Did try her with toast fingers and philadelphia today - she didn't mind it (although only really ate 1/2 a finger)

  • Brummiebabe, your not alone, my 7 month old is doing the same. I struggle to get him to eat savoury things i've made, but yet he'll happily eat what's on my plate. I just put a baby bite size in his mouth, he opens up like a little bird. He also doesn't seem in terested in breakfast, he has a 5oz bottle around 7am and I give him breakfast about 8am, but unless its yog or predominantly yog, he won't have it. I've tried porridege, weetabix, baby porridge all NO's. His breakfast usually consists of about 3-4 mouthfuls then no more.

I worry about his eating too, i know babie younger than him eating and drinking twice as much with relish and I wonder if the fact i waited until he was 6 months to start is the problem. The early weaners seem to eat anything incl purees.

I am a loss sometimes too.

Just doing the best we can. I've bought a suction bowl this week, i think i'll give that a go with toast too. He eats it, but more out than in.

Re the pizzas, Pitta bread pizza goes down well with ds, as did potato wedges. My baby gets better food than me, lol, and half the time it ends up on the floor!!
