I use Stellar bakeware - it is just the right weight, turns out beautifully and I have never had any problems with it. I buy mine from TK Maxx, but you can but it online from various places

Edit: Are you sure it's not your oven? I know my oven has a heating plate in the bottom, so if I put a tray on the bottom it always burns

I use Tesco Professional Weight baking trays... they're very good... I haven't had a stuck biscuit or flapjack yet. I bought them instore for around £6 each I think.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

I use the Mermaid range of tins. John Lewis sell a variety of sizes but I have also had some from TK Maxx. They are expensive but I have had some of mine for over 10 years.

I love the Mermaid range. Really good stuff :)
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

  • Have you tried putting them on the tray face down, then turning them over at half time? Got to be the cheapest method!

Like oliveoyl I think the tesco professional ones are really good for the money, I have two, I bought them about 18 months ago and the heat distribution is good and they haven't warped or flaked or anything.

BUT it does sound more as if there's a heat distribution problem in your oven. If it's one of those ovens that's quite small inside (like mine!) and the heating element is only at the bottom, a standard-sized tray could stop the heat from circulating properly. Or if you have top and bottom elements (like most non-fan electric ones) cooking too close to the top or bottom, combined with an ineffective seal on the oven, could cause the same problem. Are you on electric or gas?
  • I use Lakeland baking trays, not cheap, but they last for years.

I use the Alan Silverwood ones, not cheap (you have to shop around, some places charge almost twice the price others do) but they're excellent quality ... I bought some new ones recently specially to make Twink's Hobnobs™ :D

I got them here The Kitchen Shop

Thank you for all your replys. I think it must be the oven itself - it is an electric one which heats at the bottom. I have a Tesco professional baking tray - and biscuits still burn using that! But my oven does turn out nice bread and cakes with no problem at all -its just biscuits I have trouble with. I shall experiment using a small tray and baking them nearer the top. I've also got one of those round pizza trays with holes in - maybe that would work better.

    Hi ppolly,

There was a recent thread with recommendations for baking trays that may help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

    This thread may help too:

    Quality roasting and baking tins/trays?
