I did it yesterday and got accepted for 2 Credit cards and 1 referred. Got rejected for 5 cards, never mind. But Like in your case I do not need remortgaging for at least 18 months from now. Also with my the current LTV of lower than 25%, I am expecting that it will be lower than 20% by the time I will need remortgaging. With this LTV, I believe I will not have much problem with remortgaging.

    Who were you accepted by?

I was accepted by Barclaycard, Virgin, Lloyds & Sainsburys.

Nationwide offered me a BT credit card a few weeks later when I opened an ISA with them.

    Accepted : Tesco, Nationwide

Referred: Creation Everyday card (I need this as a travel credit card)

Declined; TSB, BOS, ASDA, Virgin, Sainsbury.

I also got offered 0% on BT until April 2017 with Barclay 1.2% so I took that offer to day. Not that bad as addition to my stoozing pot considering all of my saving and current account are earning at least 3% interest.

    Good Evening,
Im new to this, so pardon my ignorance, it is unintentional. I have quite a bit of credit card debt, which I would like to shift to a 0% balance transfer. Put my details through MSE eligibility calculator and got a BIG FAT 0% chance on being accepted on all of them. My query is for you boffins out there is; my mother has no debts and an excellent credit rating, is there a way (obviously she has agreed to this), that she can get a balance transfer card in her name, and shift the debts from the cards which are in my name? Is this Legal? is this possible? Many thanks

Yes you should be able to do that as they usually only ask for the card number and not the name. I have done it with my husband's cc debt with Halifax, Barclaycard and AA.

He has the same address as me, so I am not sure if it matters if the addresses are different but I doubt it.

    1) Most cards allow that (if not all). But to be 100% sure contact the card provider.

    2) Completely legal. But the BT will need to be done by your mother not you. From ethical concern and to avoid family feud make sure that your mother fully understand that once the balance is transferred to her card, the debts will be hers and she is fully responsible to clear all of the debt.

    3) refer to 1 and 2

  • I want to apply for the 23mo 0% fee Barclaycard but despite it saying, "you'll be charged 3.5% which will be refunded" - all of that disappears and the credit agreement I am presented with clearly states the fee is 3.5% but doesn't mention the refund.

Is that normal or have I been offered a different deal?

    Thanks.
  • Hello!
I have the same question re the 3.5% fee on the Barclaycard balance transfer card. Martin's site implies that there is no fee because the fee is refunded within two days. But I've been through the application process and this doesn't seem to be the case. Have you managed to get any further information on this since you posted your question???
  • Hi all, after spending a while comparing offers for balance transfers and reading advice here, I plumped for Sainsburys. I stated the transfer of 6,500 before I pressed submit and at no time did anything appear advising me that the amount I stated could be an issue. I was accepted but noted that my credit limit was only £1200. i have only one credit card, always pay it by DD every month, but I'm getting stung by a whopping 16% interest (my fault for not transferring sooner).

I've looked at MSE site again and can"t see the advice that says you may not be able to transfer the whole debt from one card to another. i am not over my limit on my current card. I've now been on the phone to Sainsburys for over 50 mins trying to understand my position. Not a good start. What to do? Will my credit score now be made worse by applying to a card i don't now want and when there's probably a better one for me re transferring the whole amount? They said that they use Experian to check my score. i feel like their site is a tad misleading and also you can't see all the application info without filling out forms (step 1, step 2 etc).

i'm a newbie at all this and didn't want to apply for more than one credit card, but I must get that balance down and cut the mega interest!

    Any advice gratefully received.
  • You never have a guarantee of the limit before acceptance. Transfer what you can.

Consider making a second application if you have further balance to transfer. If declined, wait for a few months.

Ignore your credit score. It is not used or seen by lenders.

On the plus side, 16% is low, not mega, interest.
