Hi, can you help me? I'm trying to transfer my boyfriends credit card balance to a 0% card. His balance is £9k, I tried the Halifax 25 month one but it said the maximum balance transfer is £760? Does anyone know any cards with higher balance transfer rates?
    Thanks in advance

£760 at 0% is better than nothing. Every pound at 0% saves money compared to a normal interest rate, so take it.

Cards will typically only offer 0% deals to "good" customers where the risks of default are low; after taking all the factors into account, so read the articles about improving your credit rating. I have transferred balances of £9k+ before to a 0% offer, so it's certainly possible, depending on the credit rating.

Usually the maximum balance transfer is 90% of the credit limit. The latter depends on the provider and your credit history. £10K is a very big limit for a person with poor history or very little of history.
  • After very little sleep last night, and a bit of personal honesty, I've come to terms that I'm probably not going out or going to have much fun for the next couple of years.

I'm 17k in the hole all on credit cards. I really need to move my debt onto 0%.

Problem is, I can't believe anybody would offer me more credit with the amount of debt I'm in.

Any suggestions welcome, at the moment I have a clear head, give it an hour or 2 and I'll be back on a meltdown!

    Thanks in advance guys!

The guys on the debt free wannabe board are probably based placed to help you. You paste a detailed statement of what you owe and what the interest rates are etc and they'll be able to offer some good advice or tell you who to contact. Good luck

  • Hi all,

I'd be very grateful for any advice you could give me.

I currently have around £1500 of debt on my Barclaycard, which I currently pay off at £100 per month. My mum has suggested that I move this debt to a 0% balance transfer account, but I'm not sure I'd get one.

I have a very low income from a property (mortgaged) I rent out - less than £10,000. I don't have any formal employment. I have been in and out of the UK for several years (more time out than in).

I went to fill out some applications but got a bit stuck. My formal UK income is very low, but I don't really want to lie. And I haven't really lived at my "home" address, where all my accounts etc are registered, longterm for more than 4 years. I don't want to lie about this either and say that I have been there for all that time, because then I should have been paying council tax.

Is it very likely that I will be rejected given my circumstances? Will making an application, and then being rejected, leave a black mark on my record?

    Many thanks.

You may well get rejected based on your credit limit to income ratio but there is no harm in trying. One application will only leave one search on your credit report and 1-2 searches in a 6 month period are OK.

Your credit report will not show that the application was successful or unsuccessful although that could potentially be assumed by considering future credit agreements

Your address should match the electoral roll. Not sure on the exact rules for how much time you have to be there in relation to using the address as your account address

Half of this thread is made up of you saying that! :rotfl:

Can't you just press the spam button without typing a post out about it like everyone else manages to do?
