Evening all, I was a previous user but can no longer access my E-Mails on that to reset my password, so had to resign up.

I'm needing to know is there a way to confirm if a new Credit Card is eligible for a balance transfer from a certain bank before applying?

I want to move a balance from a Lloyds TSB card, so I applied and got a Tesco card with the best deal on 0% on balance transfers.

Only when I when to make the transfer it says it can't be done from this card.

Is there a guide anywhere to confirm who can do this and who can't?

It's usually only an issue if both cards are owned by the same group of companies. Could also be a technical issue if the Lloyds card is a new credit card with a new prefix that isn't on the database yet. Surprised Lloyds doesn't work as I've transferred from an Amex charge card to Tesco

I don't know of any. The closest thing is here: http://www.stoozing.com/cards.php

Usually with a non-bank branded card it's possible to see who the real provider is on the website (eg: play.com, amazon.co.uk and AA cars are all issued by mbna) so it's possible to see whether a BT would work, but Tesco states the provider is Tesco bank. I don't know if that's just a legal front for Lloyds or not; or whether there is another reason your BT wouldn't work.

You could always transfer the balance to another card first. There will be two fees but if you're paying high interest it could still be worth it.

Thanks for the guys, I've applied for a Barclays one and got that fine. So will be looking to balance transfer from lloyds TSB to that.

Can you do more than one transfer each way?

As the amount occurring interest on Lloyds TSB is to much for one transfer. So I was thinking of doing a transfer to Barclays and then use the tesco to transfer from barclays to tesco, and then re transfer remaining lloyds to the barclays.

Do you think this is possible?

Hello. So I have had a Bank of Scotland Visa for almost 15 years and I have not spent on it for at least 13 years. Basically I have been paying it off since then. I currently owe just over £1000 which isn't that bad I suppose. But like I said I have been paying the card off for years and as you know most of this is only going to cover interest (I shudder each time I think of how much I have actually payed on this card).

So I would really like to get a balance transfer card that allows me to pay what I currently pay each month (£50) but every penny of that £50 goes towards paying the card balance off and not just paying the interest. Also since I have not used the Visa for years I don't actually have a Visa Card, I noticed that when applying for a balance transfer you have to enter the card number of the card you are transferring the balance from but I don't have a card number just an account number? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If the account number you know is 16-digit, then it the same as the card number.
  • I just applied for a Lloyds Platinum for a BT as the 0% duration and fee seemed good for my circumstances. This is the fist time I've applied for a card in about 4 years.
I followed the link from this website.
I filled out all the personal details, bank account details, how much I'd like to transfer, etc. Then clicked continue.
The Lloyds site then "encountered a problem" and was, of course, sorry for any inconvenience.
I went back to the start, filled out all the details etc, clicked continue and this time there was a Confirm details page. I continued after that and this time it denied me because I had already applied within the last 30 days!
What has this done for my credit score?
I take it my chances of getting the Lloyds card are scuppered.
When should I apply for another card from a different provider?
    All advice welcome
    Thanks

If I get refused for another card for a balance transfer will this affect my credit score?
  • My mum wants me to help her with her credit card as I am a card tart myself. She has £5000 on a card with an interest rate which is going to go up soon. I've always gone for 0% cards and advised her to do that but obviously with the fee to balance transfer this will cost her quite a lot. She is currently paying off £90 a month (minimum payment). How do I know if she will get a card that will take £5000? What should I do? Thanks in advance.

@FullTankOfGas: Call them and ask if they ran a credit check. If they did, you can probably ask them to process your initial application. If they didn't, ask them why you can't re-apply as it's their fault, not yours

Too many searches will adversely affect your score, regardless of the outcome. Try to keep to max 2 in any 6-month period
