This could be your best move at the mo. Attracting new business is expensive and most lenders prefer to retain existing customers. With a zero balance, you're in a good position to negotiate a low-rate balance transfer ;)

If possible, I would phone during normal business hours.

Let us know how you get on.

Well I asked Egg if they could offer me any special balance transfer deals to keep me from cancelling my card, but they said they couldn't offer anything at the moment, only a std rate of ~17%, but to check my emails for any special offers in the future!!

So I'll be cancelling that card and applying for another without asking for any balance transfers until I have seen my credit limit.

Barclaycard is one I had in mind, not the one above but one with 14 months 0% on BT's, with 2.8% fee iirc.

Well, after phoning Egg to cancel my account they asked why, told them that I hadn't been offered any BT's that would interest me, and they went ahead and offered me 0% with 2.5% fee for 6 months. Upped my credit limit to suit and dealt with the transfer over the phone.

Saves me applying for another card until then :)

There is a good offer of a Barclaycard at the moment via the Barclays Internet Banking, I have just applied
2% Cashback on Supermarket & Petrol spend, plus a 9 month BT with only a 1.5% fee.

    :T

Note: under Barclaycard's balance transfer terms, you are restricted to amounts between £250 and £5,000 or 90% of your credit limit, whichever is lower.

Also, credit limits tend to be low.

I would advise anyone considering this card to have a read through this thread (which was only started on 6 January 2008 btw), before you apply. You will see that Barclaycard figures quite prominently and not always for the right reasons.

  • Just to let anyone that needs updated to know, it may benefit others:

    Applied for:
Egg Card - accepted, but still waiting on the infos in the post since 29th Feb.

BMIBaby - accepted on 1st March, but they said it could take up to 21 working days to process, useless and painfully slow! Called about it on 6th Mar to ask about the progress, they told me coldly that because of my phonecall I now had to undergo a further credit check so may have reset my timespan and progress to 21 days again. Was ready to cancel there and then but held my tongue and will wait for the paperwork first. Talk about customer service though. Shocking.

Abbey - accepted, but still waiting on the infos in the post since 1st March

    *Good News*
Ulster Bank - accepted, applied 3rd March, written confirmations were with me by 6th March, forgot to include that I wanted balance transfer so asked for this on 7th March, was told this would take 10 working days. But by 10th March, Balance Transfers all sorted! And this over a weekend too! Such a fast turnaround, can't applaud them enough!

    :j Hurrah! :money:

Looks like I'll be cancelling a few though so I can advantage of them and tart off them at a later date. Have a feeling since BMIBaby have been so crap so far they may be a pain to cancel, hope I'm wrong though!

In your first post (#249), you told us you were looking to transfer around £3000 from two separate cards to one 0% balance transfer card for the longest period of time possible.

One of these two cards was underwritten by Bank of Scotland. Later (#274), you said that this card was in fact issued by Royal Bank of Scotland.

If so, Ulster Bank will not be able to accept this balance transfer because, like Mint, the bank belongs to the RBS Group.

    Yes,Virgin is pretty efficient.

    Egg, Halifax, Mint
and the Post Office give instant decisions and credit limits as well.

I got instant acceptance from Capital One too but, if memory serves, had to wait three or four days for the credit limit.

have about £1400, so planning to pay £100pm to clear the card by the end of the 15 months. hopefully!
  • :money: Moggles I love all that cross-referencing you went to such an effort to achieve.

Made a slight mistake, I meant to say Bank of Ireland not Ulster Bank, doh.
