Which other credit cards do you have at the mo?

    Hi there,

I think I have a very good credit rating, but have never had a credit card! (I'm 36 years old!) I just didn't want to go down that slippery slope.

I have Argos and Wallis cards (went for this slippery slope instead!) Total between them is £500.00. I want them cleared and would like to put them on a 0% balance transfer. Now these may seem like silly questions to you guys but this is what I'd like to know!!

Is 0% balance transfer just for credit cards?

Can someone talk me through the basics of how it would work. Do I give them the Argos + Wallis card details and they pay it off and I owe them or do I get the card, phone Wallis oand Argos, clear them and load it onto the 0% credit card?

Sorry these must seem like such silly questions, but I have only ever had these store cards, in-store 0% at currys (always cleared in time) and small loans. I want to be debt free now!

which compnay would be more likely (if any) to accept a £3500 transfer from HSBC? Do they except transfers for this amount? Good credit rating no defaults/CCJ's.

I'm not up on store cards but when I've applied for credit cards in the past to move outstanding balances to I have been given the option to put the balance transfer details on the form. Then new CC company paid off previous balances :) Don't see why the same can't be done for your store cards.

    Hi Chuckie 79,

    Thank you for replying.

The reason I ask is because I don't know if a store card account number is the same as a c/card account number, eg: 16 digits.

Also, would I be able to get another 0% from elsewhere in june?

    THank you

    Sarah,

I'm not familiar with the 'Wallis' card, but the Argos storecard does not have the standard 16-digit card number (does it have 17, 18 or 19?), and so cannot be transferred to a credit card directly.

You'll need to use a super balance transfer (SBT) card to transfer cash (at 0%) into your current account, from where you can settle the account(s).

Look at MBNA and MBNA run cards such as Virgin, A&L, etc. Also take a look at the Egg Card (Visa...NOT Egg Money). All of these offer 0% for 12-15 months on cash transfers to your current account (if done the right way), albeit with 2.9-3% BT fees attached.

    Hi Yorkshire Boy,

Thank you for you help. 'Wallis' is womens clothing store, no shame in not knowing that as your name suffests you're a fella!!

Do you think I would also be able to get another 0% card in june as a 0% Currys loan ends then (I may have it paid off by then as it's £500, but just incase)?!

    Thannk you
