  • Moggles sorry until I started reading these posts, I always assumed "Bank of Scotland" was "Royal Bank of Scotland" (same thing). But obviously not.

Well, congratulations on getting accepted anyway, presumably with the credit limit you wanted.

FWIW, I believe you'd find the set-up straightforward. Egg will e-mail you when your monthly statement is ready. It's simply a matter of visiting the website and following the easy on screen instructions.

The only frustrating part at the moment is waiting for the card to arrive. Seems I've left it quite tight for getting the balance transferred - could take 7-10 working days to receive the card, then have to apply for the balance transfer online or by phone - how long does this normally take to have the transfer accepted and for the balance to actually be transferred? I have done this before, but before it was always completed at same time as applying for the card so by time you got the card it was done. Arrghh!

Think I have until the 27th, I thought 4 weeks would be enough but seems I miscalculated - it's actually 3.5 weeks now until that date! Panic!

So just in case, applied for a Post Office card and got accepted - though it appears they only allow a Balance Transfer from one other card... or is that one card at a time? Confusing!
  • What card is the easiest to get (most likely to accept me) and will be the cheapest for a £1000 balance transfer?

You applied for your Egg card on Saturday 1 March and posted this on Monday 3 March. That's one working day. Perhaps it feels longer.

This differs between lenders. Most advise you to allow up to 10 working days.

IME, doing this saves no more than one or two working days at most.

IMO, it's best to keep your options open (as you have done) and leave the balance transfer section of your credit card application blank or, if asked, state you may be interested.

An horrendous story involving LTSB and Capital One was posted to this forum last year. Incompetence on this scale is fortunately rare but, for peace of mind and to avoid unwanted partial transfers, it's better to wait until safe receipt of your card & credit limit. Then request your BT(s) by phone when you call to activate your new card. There's usually a Freefone number for this.

I answered a similar question for you last week, didn't I? Please see #224 above.

Do I gather you've now transferred £1400, but £1000 remains on your Amazon card?

You already hold a Barclaycard and the balance is zero, so perhaps it's worth a phone call to Customer Services to see if they can offer a low-rate balance transfer.

  • Your advice on Balance transfers is to never EVER spend on the card until the transferred balance is paid off.

However am I right in thinking that I can do my Tesco shops on their credit card AND transfer my balance for 13 interest free months without any extra interest accruing?

    thanks

The deal advertised on Tesco's website at the mo offers new customers 0% for 13 months on balance transfers and Tesco purchases, so it's safe to spend on this card when you're in Tesco.

The 0% on purchases, made anywhere but Tesco's, expires after just 3 months, so that's a definite no no.

Please do check your paperwork though. Things change over time and the Ts & Cs currently advertised on Tesco's website may be different from the credit agreement you've signed.

is it 0% on tesco purchases for 13 months too? if the interest free period for both is the same i dont see why not. normally cards give say a 12 month 0% on BTs and a 3 month on purchases, to trick people out
