I closed my edge saver on the day the monthly interest was paid. I had cleared out the £4k plus interest so the account had a balance of £0 before I requested the closure, so I was surprised when they paid me 38p closing interest when the account closed a couple of days later.

Interest is added to the account the day following its accrual so if you wait for it to be added before withdrawal and closure there is at least a day's interest owing.

I'm still waiting on mine (1st attempt made on 22nd). Monthly interest arrived today and was moved out. I may need to try again next week.

And the chaos continues. I opened a new account, web site was sluggish and dumped the application before I had got to the tick box screen so went in and started again. I received on screen confirmation and an e-mail at 15.02 and account was showing on line so transferred £4K into it. At 16.49 I received another "Welcome to your new Edge saver" e-mail, different account number and showing on line so I now have 3 Edge savers !

People are reporting issues with online banking today. I would consider myself extremely fortunate to have that end result.

  • Based on my experiences I think it takes longer if there is either a balance or any accrued interest to be dealt with at closure. Last time around I zeroed the account the day before interest was due to be credited, removed the interest the following morning, then requested closure via Sandi. So when I requested closure there was both a zero balance and zero accrued interest. The account was closed the very next day and I was able to open another the day after that.. The funds were only elsewhere earning less than 6% for 3 days.

They've obviously noticed as I have a message that one of the accounts is changing to an Everyday saver as I no longer have an (enough)Edge current accounts. Have closed the old one again through Sandi so hope it goes this time.

That's a shame. I'm still trying to close mine and have resubmitted the request as it is now the 5th working day since the original request. I'm guessing there is more of a backlog than usual, since my previous requests have been actioned within 2-3 working days.
