In fairness to Santander, I requested the closure of some Edge savers via chat on Monday, and it was all done, with funds and interest transferred, yesterday (Tuesday). I was also able to open and fund new Edge savers yesterday too.

My Edge saver expired on the 5th and the account was converted to a 3.45% saver still called Edge Saver, I cancelled via the bot and it was closed on the 10th and opened a new one same day that took an hour or so to appear - 3 working days or so. They paid the interest on the 6th like normal.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

It didn’t give me my Edge Saver account as one of the ones to be upgraded. Had to go down usual route of chatting to Sandi.

My experience hasn't been that great with Santander Edge Savers (one mine and one joint with wife). They matured last Wednesday. I asked Sandi to close them both on Thursday. To date they are still sitting there with interest that was received Friday. They are still open, but I can't even get at the interest. I tried to withdraw it twice yesterday. Each time it said I was successful, but the money just sits there.

I got onto chat again this afternoon, as the account is still sitting there with my money and no way of getting it. Sandi was useless, so I asked to speak to a person. They said CS would be with me shortly. 90 minutes later not a dicky bird. Not impressed!

Ive closed and reopened a few Santander edge savers in the past. I did the same with one of my Santander edge saver and asked Sandi to close the account on Thursday 20/8 last week. I was told it will be done in 5 days......I assume that's working days so I'm kind of expecting it'll be done on the 27/8. I couldn't care less if its few days late. Why does everyone expect everything to happen instantly ?

    £4000 @ 5% is £0.54p a day so it's no big deal.

Withdraw the money before closing the account. Someone posted that not doing that can cause problems.

Yup it no longer switches to easy access, but acts like an introductory rate for the first year. However you can close and reopen to start the full rates again.
