Missed Ryanair Flight

I've never been told to leave stuff in a bag.
The point is that you've not been told to remove them from a bag.

I suspect that the poster originally suggesting that the incident occurred in Malta genuinely missed all the clues in the OP that it was on the outward journey from the UK…

Sticking to the point…
Unfortunately your daughter made a mistake. She put her phone in the tray, then when it had come through the scanner, she should have noticed straight away that she didn't have it.
How long between going through the scanner and noticing the phone was missing? e.g. they arrived 2 hours early but then were 8 minutes late to the flight gate, so did they spend 2 hours looking for the phone?
The next mistake was ALL of them waiting with your daughter. Three of them should have gone to the gate to explain then catch the flight, and one other should have remained with your daughter.
I can't see how it can get stuck in the machine. Sounds like she may have left it in the tray then the tray got chucked underneath with the empties and the phone fell onto the floor. Or it fell onto the floor when she was collecting stuff from her tray.So all things considered, it is not Ryanair's fault (they're just following their policy, and have to have a cut off point - sounds harsh but rules are rules), and it's likely not security machine fault either.
Have a look on the insurance for human error claims, but otherwise they'll just have to suck it up! Hope they all got there eventually.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I've travelled from BHX a number of times.
I've always left my phone & keys & purse containing coins in my handbag.
I always take my watch off and put it in my hand luggage.

Did she get stuck in the scanner as well…….

No. she's slimmer than me…

I don't have a handbag and rarely have hand luggage. So it's usually all in the tray

Well, that's why you've never been told to leave stuff in your bag…
You don't have one. 🤣

I'm not sure why you're arguing this point, or why you think your experience can be generalised to every traveller in every airport at all times.
At Manchester last year I was told all electrical items to be taken from bags - phones, cables, camera, mains sockets adaptor - the lot, all laid out on trays, with staff yelling at you to do so. That's been the case in other airports too. It's not unreasonable to put phones in the tray, either because it's a direct instruction to do so, or because you're instructed to empty your pockets into the tray.

I've been through 12 UK airports (in the era of mobile phones being a thing) and cannot remember ever encountering a requirement for phones to be examined separately. But I suspect we're off on a tangent here anyway.
