well there isnt "a different airport" on Malta so by deduction the airport in question cant have been MLA. Unless they got the hovercraft to Sicily!

The point is that they had to fly from a different UK airport as the incident happened on their journey to Malta in the first place, so the lack of alternative airports in Malta is an irrelevant red herring!

I flew from Birmingham last November and that was my experience. I've never been told to leave stuff in a bag. Watch, keys, phone, coins all in the tray separately

I also had to remove a nylon belt with nylon/plastic buckle and it got lost in the scanner!

It was eventually retrieved

I've also lost my wallet in the scanner. Again eventually retrieved

I don't know where the assumption this airport was in Malta has come from.

I assumed from the OP that it was on the outward flight.

Perhaps people think foreign security staff are more likely to be rude and unhelpful than British? 🤣

I was initially unsure how the OP's daughter managed to get their mobile phone left in the scanner. I thought it must have been an exception - I have flown many times and never had anything get caught behind in the scanner.

Now we have Okell saying they manage to get things left behind in the scanner regularly.

I'm now surprised that all these things left behind in the scanner don't cause the scanners to seize.
