Cats really do rule when it comes to feeding! My grandparents had 12 at one point, and feeding area was like a cafe! Were fed tins, and had dry food and water out at all times. Eldest cat had her own tub of crunchies in a seperate area!
Two cats at my parents house, the one in my picture is a fuss pot! She will only eat pouches and prefers jelly to gravy - will not eat whiskas. She goes thru about 2/3 singles a day. Other cat just eats dried food, and goes hunting a lot - quite sucessful! She likes getting carnation milk!
Good luck with changing stuff - hopefully work ok, as cat gets used to it. Could cheap tins of tuna/salmon be a possibility? As a treat and poss cheaper than cat food?:j Debt-Free-Wannabe! :jDeclutter/Ebay/Savings0 -
I am in a similar situation. I have 2 pedigrees that have dodgy tummies. They eat chicken and rice, however i get them Smart Price chicken from Asda, and use a bit more rice, that tends to help. I find this a hell of a lot cheaper than cat food (tinned etc.) as they will eat that until the cows come home and not seem to be full up (and then have problems after)!
Not sure if this helps?

I think that this is a 'cat thing'. My dog will eat anything put down in front of him but the cats would rather eat small, squeaky things from the garden then eat tesco cat food (and leave the purple wobbly bits on the doorstep for my to tread on in my slippers!). Happily us and the moggies have reached a compromise on GoCat that we buy in bulk from Jollyes or the Range.0

I have three cats and one is so fussy she will only eat Felix good as it looks. The other two have dried food so they are fine, but the eldest costs a fortune. She's also a very clever cat-if I buy cheaper stuff she sits and howls then eventually she will eat it and then bring the whole lot back up somewhere, usually where we would least like it!
Hi itsgottostop...I posted on your other thread today about cat food (+ wine and ciggies) and it vanished! My last 3 non MSE habits!
Felix "as good as it looks" ; started ours on it when it was launched a couple of yrs back and on offer now they eat NOTHING else..............not even the meat versions...only "ocean feast".
I am such a saddo, I drive to a farm shop for cheap muddy veg then hit Asda for low margin (I am anti supermarket) smart price essentials (eg; brn rice, loo roll and 13p wash up liquid) .I pay and the bill is £25..of which £15 is the weeks "jelly" pouches! The catfood is costing more than ours!
They also like a spot of Iams.
Even worse, I am very anti processed / factory farmed meat and yet I spend a fortune on processed cat food from the very industry that I won't feed us from (we do 13p tins of kidney beans when I can't afford proper meat).
One is a mouser so she is less demanding...likes biscuits, but Ginger, he is SO fussy!!
I even boiled a chicken carcass (an expensive organic one at that) into a chickeny, jelly mass and they turned their noses up! Usually I'll make a stock for us.
I will follow this thread as I need to get a grip on this.but Ginger will NOT eat anything else..I tried the Lidl stuff..no joy. He will also get through 3 or 4 pouches a day but is not overweight......big and muscular.
Re; wine Lidl is the place to go for wine...do a great Cotes du Rhone for £2.74..identical to Asda who charge £3.99 for same quality.
Ciggies; my health can no longer afford it either...this I have to get a grip on sooner rather than later:D0 -
ROG2...your post about something addictive in the food...I really believe this is true! Anyone got any ideas on a detox diet for the cats??0

Although I am now on Tesco value the cats had a temporary reprieve as "Felix as good as" was half price at Tesco even ocean I think....
After that someone mentioned Asda pouches Tiger something at 60 pouches for a fiver which sounds great value...
Like you one of my cats ( not fat) gets through about 3 pouches a day do it all mounts up:eek:
Until I kick the wine and fags it seems a bit unfair to put them on strict mse diet but it will happen soon!!!!!0 -
I have only one cat but she is really fussy. I found her as a stray kitten, all skinny, visibly underfed, but even then she wouldn't eat just anything. She love Felix pouches but will not touch Felix tins
.
However, I tried the the new Tesco Premium pouches and she loves them. It is not cheap but it still costs 25% less. As they say.... "every little helps":D
I also complement with dry food (good for her teeth) and luckily she eats the ones from Lidl.2009: Headphones, Nintendo DSi , Baking Kit

My puss cat (see avatar) is fed Hills science plan, but it lasts about 2 months and has normally gone back on offer (plus if we mention to the pet shop we use that he is a Cat protection cat we get extra off or free pouches!) and he get's tuna in springwater at the weekends and occasionally meat pouches if mother buys them.
But he will NOT DO whiskers! Can't stand the stuff, although the woman who was looking after him at cat pro told us that, so we haven't wasted our money.
Although the humans in our house no longer eat tuna, it's not worth the fight!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -

At least your cats actually eat the small squeaky things - ours catch them and bring them to us, as presents   - and often they are not quite dead.
The worst thing is that they will do the same with frogs and slow worms, and I can not convince my wife that a slow worm is not a 'poisonous snake'. :rotfl: :rotfl:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser.
