Do you have access to a local butcher/fishmonger that can save you relevant bits/bobs they'd have binned?
It might be possible, based on accessibility/time available to be able to come to an arrangement where you pop in daily and see what they've got, or arrange to call in on 1-2 days a week to see what they've got.
I know that might be logistically impossible, but worth a shot.
Also: you could become a dedicated "web surfer looking for free catfood samples" and get a few friends/neighbours/colleagues to agree to you signing them up so you can apply for half a dozen of each at a time using their name/address.0 -
blimey, I must be too soft...if my older girl wont eat it i rush out and but something else...on the wrong track!
Can I ask what you do feed your cats? I'm buying pouches of whiskas etc ( half of which don't get eaten and iams dry food..they have a bit of both) spending more on cat food than me alot of the time!0 -

What a great idea! yes local fish shop nearby, might give that a go! thank you0 -
I have a cat & feed her on biscuits, I get a 10KG bag of go-cat from Makro for £9. She has had this since being a kitten & is very, very healthy. Being a dry food there is never any waste.
The other posters are right, if hungry enough they will eat anything.0 -

if they are hungry enough they will eat it ~ trust me i was trained in animal care. When i worked in the cattery everyday i would put food down for one cat and he darnt eat it... come 3 days later later he knew thats all he got and he ate it. Trust me as long as they have water and you put down clean food each day they will soon get the message. However obviously don't let them go 2/3 days without food, if push comes to shove wean them off it by mixing the old stuff with the new.
Thomas usually gets fed on whatever they have one offer at work. The only thing he has and he loves is cat milk but for 55p and it last nearly 2 weeks its not a great expense.0
