Apparently the cost for those getting it free is built into the fees of those who are paying (no comment 😂). One of the WhatsApp mums is a TA at the secondary school and said they reckon it’s actually £50 per head but they’re basing it on a certain percentage needing it for free so have averaged it out.

Once they know fixed numbers (deadline is next Friday) they’ll fine tune and budget activities accordingly. The comments on the WhatsApp group after that little tidbit were ‘colourful’ 🍿

If you like a funny comments section, I’d recommend genevieveturleymua on Instagram. She does these videos where she comments on others’ videos. So funny and the comments on her videos don’t disappoint either.

There was one guy posting about praying for his wife at a certain time of the month and another where one the K@rdashians was making a coffee and treating it like she’d discovered atomic fusion or something.

I obviously need to get out more 😂

So we’re now down to £260 for the next 17 days… hoping for a few NSDs to catch up!

DD enjoyed her first day of work experience, she quite liked the commute too, good for people watching apparently. I was getting a running commentary of her journeys which was amusing.

Although, on the way back she was offended at how smelly some of the men were after a day of work. And at people eating with their mouths open. And people watching videos without headphones. She’s a grumpy old lady at 17, she gets it from me 🤣

Thats precisely what I suspected tbh (I just didnt want to suggest). School trips (at least when mine were young) used to be the same. My friend's kids attended a school with a larger than average % of children whose parents werent able to pay. Trips were expensive for the paying parents. My kids school though the PTA fundraised in order to cap all day trips at £10 max. I always thought that a very fair gesture.

Yes, our primary school does it for PGL trips, but it’s about 5-10% of the cost and topped up by the PTA. School trip costs are voluntary, but if not enough people contribute, the trip doesn’t go ahead.
It hasn’t seemed to be an issue at primary. Maybe the ratio of those who don’t pay is smaller? 🤔

I must admit, overall I don’t mind the discrepancy and if people genuinely can’t afford it I think it’s good their kids don’t miss out eith these schemes in place. I don’t appreciate the families who fiddle the system to get freebies but can then afford luxury family holidays (luckily they seem to be few).

I really like our fee free CB Amex. Not everywhere near to us takes it, when we visit DD in London even the local Indian restaurant does. After we'd had ours around 18 months, DH was offerred another, this is only fee free for a year and you got points towards vouchers not cashback. We were able to put some (work related) flights on it, built enough points up to get a free TV from Currys and have 4x free airport lounge passes when we go away later this year - then we'll cancel before the annual charge comes in - lol

Is that the gold one? I had that initially and the rewards were amazing (loved the airport lounges 😍). Like you, I cancelled it before the fee kicked in, it was about £200 🤢
