Detail I have started a thread on there's early today but nothing to help me but there are a few in the same situation as me but no resolution.

I remember having a problem with Sky in the past with log ins after I left for a very short period during "price negotiations".. I'd signed back up with a different email address. Can't remember how I got sorted it unfortunately. .but it did involve several messages and calls to Sky.
As an aside - I haven't activated my "free" HBO account yet thru the Q box - but I have managed to use my son in law;s email & log in to HBO Max app to watch the TNT Sports channels on the Q box - and he is not a Sky customer !!

I've got no less than 3 email addresses that are related to my account in some measure, so far not caused an issue bar popping up a message for awhile a month or two back claiming I needed to remove one. It stopped appearing without me doing anything.

Well after over 8 hours on the sky help forum being helped by someone it turns out that as I now have an active subscription Sky can't do anything.
I have to cancel the subscription and after it had run out I have to unlink the address.
Asked how to do this and was told contact hbo as they don't know.
So in a month time when I try again will I be in same situation as the sky email is the one I used for hbo and never worked for the freebie so it won't work after the paid subscription is cancelled will it?
I maybe back here in July asking for help again.
Thanks for all that took the time to help and advise me on my issue.

What you can do is change the email on the HBO site. Maybe try it now (the one you use for Prime perhaps), give it an hour and then try the 'create account' option on the HBO App on the Sky box.

The sky help forum person said I can't use that account as it is still a paid subscription and wait till it expires.
Unless you mean change current sub email to another and try to activate sky email on q box?

Maybe wait in that case, although I can't see why being a paid account should stop it. I had a paid Disney+ account that transfered over just fine. The direct Disney account is now paused and the billing is now via Sky Marketplace (I have Ad free so pay the £4 a month).

That's what I don't understand as the sky emails about the freebies say you can transfer the account over and the sky tech person said a paid subscription can be used on the sky hbo deal
The help forum person said no it can't be done so somebody is not telling the truth.

I tried it this morning after I changed the email yesterday and still the activation loop goes on and on.
Maybe somebody is giving me a sign and not to use hbo max as it's useless.
