I'm not saying that I WILL do any of those things. I am just stating that while likely unsuccessful, there ARE possible avenues to go down. I do believe in my case, despite what others may think, I was simply posting here for any advice - not pure pessimism. I do understand what everyone is saying, but I literally cannot afford to think like that. I work 4 days a week an go to college 2 days. This car is my money. I need to get a refund on this car to buy a decent one. Worst comes to worst I'll just repair the cat and drive it till the belt snaps. But if I can avoid doing that, I will.
Also the fact they responded to my notice of rejection with "Goodluck" has seriously ignited a passion in me to try and nail these !!!!!!. I'm sorry if that seems stupid to everyone, but I guess I'm young and dumb. The benefit of that is I'll always make more money.
I need a car for a new job at a bank. I need it to be reliable. I was sold this car on the basis that it was reliable. Two check engine lights in 6 days is not reliable.0 -
It's (probably) a different "they" though.

The reason for the "good luck" is this probably isn't their first rodeo but it is yours. They know all the tricks to avoid having to refund their dodgy motors.
You are literally throwing good money after bad but hey, not an issue if "The benefit of that is I'll always make more money".
No idea why you throw in these "look at me" comments. You have just bought a 12 year old car fit for scrap and giving it large.

However, adding a car for sale does not mean that the business has any assets against which you could recover your losses. It is not unusual for car dealers to operate on a basis where all the cars on the forecourt are under finance, with the cars themselves being security for that finance.
This car is my money. I need to get a refund on this car to buy a decent one. Worst comes to worst I'll just repair the cat and drive it till the belt snaps. But if I can avoid doing that, I will.
Well, if you repair the cat and also renew the belt in advance of failure as per the scheduled maintenance requirements you can avoid driving it until the belt snaps. If the belt snaps, that will leave the car good for scrap only. The belt can snap suddenly and without warning.
Are you certain it is the cat that is the issue and not an associated part of the system such as the DPF, which may just need regenerating?

The dealer has already replaced the spark plugs, and they've offered to replace the cat. To my recollection, that would be all the faults addressed, yet he's turned them down.
That suggests my immediate assumption was correct: that he's got buyer's remorse because he's realised - after purchase - that it has a wet belt which is due replacement.
Why take someone to court for fixing one of the two problems and offering to fix the other?

under the consumer rights act 2015 I have no obligation and I am well within my right to return a faulty car, I do not need to accept repair

Why haven't you taken it back, given them the keys and a formal letter of rejection?

What have you done to return the car?
Saying you want to reject it is not the same as rejecting it
You need to stop using it(, take it back with the keys and leave it there , along with a formal rejection letter.
Have you done that?

Because the whole thing is made up.
