Hi @Dizzycap
When you open a new thread on the challenge board, it defaults to the standard 1p challenge template - It seemed a good idea to make that the default to make this as simple as possible.
But the tools on that board are looking at any table and calculating what £s you've crossed off compared to the total amount. So you can actually delete the default and make any tables you like as long as the money is in £x.xx format!
I did a quick test here: £59.17 test.
Note that it might not be perfect. Possibly a bug or two if you veer of the standard - My goal was to get the default tested and find out here what members wanted before getting it finalised

@ MSE_Stephen - That's absolutely super! I love the idea overall for the 1p a day challenge and I think it will inspire more to participate in the challenge, especially if all they have to do is mark off the amounts online; rather than a printout which some may not be able to do/obtain, and the system calculating it all. I'm giving this idea a 100%, YES! It works well 🤗🤩.

this looks really complicated now - it was a simple format
w/c 8 June 4 weekly cold turkey week £59.70/£60 = £0.30 rem
June NSD 18/18
June Grocery challenge £202.79/£270 = £67.21 rem
w/c 11 May cold turkey week £49.18/£50 = £0.82 rem / May NSD 20/16 / May Grocery challenge £379.04/£310 = £69.04 over

Hi
Could you try creating your own 1p Challenge thread, by clicking the button below?
Simply use the strike-through option to mark some amounts off - as seen in the gif in the opening post of this thread.
There’s no downside. This is just a testing board and I can delete your test thread any time.
It’d be really helpful to get your insight as someone who thinks it’s complicated. Give your honest feedback on how complicated/confusing it is.

Hi Stephen,
I've created a test 1p thread and posted but it doesn't seem to have been posted on this board? Maybe it was a direct post to you with some observations and comments included. If not, then I'm more that happy to complete another test run 1p page and post.

Hi @Dizzycap
I can see it at the top of this board:
That's great that you were able to customise it to your needs.
But I can see that adding 'Total' has also added that to the target in the progress bar.
A simple fix would be to add that below the table because the calculator was told only to look in tables.I would like there to be checkboxes available, rather than crossing things out - I've made a feature request to our provider for checkboxes. Checkboxes would be useful for loads of stuff in a forum so I'm hoping they'll consider it even though our particular use case would be very niche.

Hi Stephen,
I did wonder about what would happen when I added the total. It seems fair to just add a seperate total on a seperate line at the bottom of each month. I'll give it another go using the strike through……
I can't see any option to just click/tick on an amount box to colour it out; which would be even better as it would be much faster and perhaps less confusing, but might need some programming / background html jiggling for it to work? Just a thought…….

@MSE_Stephen I have tried starting my own 1p challenge thread on the test board but the progress bar seemed to be missing and I was unable to colour out the days. I agree with @Dizzycap that the facility to just colour out a number or series of numbers (either consecutive or random) would be the best way of monitoring progress. I particularly liked the progress bar I saw on the earlier test thread. Presumably when I get to the stage of starting next years thread there will be a link to the template?

i can see a progress bar at the top here:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6666442/1p-challenge-enthusiastic-saver
Is it now showing for you? (It doesn't show when you are editing your thread).
You colour each day by using the 'Strike' formatting, but, again, this doesn't change the colour on the editing screen.Presumably when I get to the stage of starting next years thread there will be a link to the template?
The way it currently works is that, as you did, you create a post here on this board and it auto-populates with the tables.
But we're looking at alternative ways. One way might be to instead have a page that has a selection of versions (with 'Copy to clipboard' buttons), so that you could choose the normal order or 'Reverse Order' or 'Random Order'. You would still always be able to fill in any cell you like in any order.

@MSE_Stephen I think I am obviously doing something wrong here. I can see the progress bar as you say unless I am editing but although I managed to set up a thread and strikethrough Januarys which then showed on the progress bar how do I go back in as I normally would on a separate post and edit to show Februarys contribution etc etc?
Presumably we all just have one challenge thread but how do I go in and edit it each time 1 make a savings update? What I would like to do is marry my test challenge thread up with my current actual one and update it regularly to test it over the next few months.
