We 'purchased' a divan bed using the codes, and have had £40+ taken out of our bank account more than the order confirmation.
Phoned on 2 occasions and each time told they don't have access to the systems and we have to email our query.
We have used the online form, the email address, and thirdly sent a letter with the attched order confirmation by post.
But as yet haven't recieved a reponse from either 3 methods.
Further more we've had no confirmation on when our bed will be delivered, and again was told we have to email for a delivery date!!!The code quoted on your order for 20% discount is not valid on your account, therefore we can not refund
the difference in price.
For the past few days I have been trying to cancel my order and obtain a full refund as I would not have placed the order at the price they have charged me. So far they are ignoring all my emails about cancellation:mad: Like you I have tried phoning a few times as well but got nowhere.
They were extremely quick to take the money even though it wasn't authorised but apparently not so quick issuing refunds:rolleyes:
After this experience I will never order from Debenhams again.:(0 -
If i eventually get the same response i will take this further, as i stated in the letter i wrote -
".......In my conversation with xxxxx, she assured me this has been an error as she agreed you are not authorised to take more than the amount i agreed too, and if I write to this address with the attached order confirmation, you will credit my card back with the difference of £xx.xx."
Now she gave me verbal confirmation that it is an error, and i have the date and time of my call, so they can play it back if needs be.
Further more if this 20% code is not valid, then why did they initally accept it?
That initial acceptance formed part of the contract between Debenhams and myself. If they wish to alter that contract, then they have a legal duty to inform me prior to doing so, whereby i would have the option to cancel the contract.
This they didn't do, and if needs be will report them to consumer direct, and the trading standards officials.
May i ask though if you ever recieved contact to arrange delivery?
As i believed that they would only debit our accounts once they have confirmation with the supplier that the order can be fullfilled, and if that is the case, surely they can contact me to arrange a delivery time?
I will fight this one on, as we are in desperate need of a bed, and there is nothing else suitable within our budget, thus have nothing really to lose.
Keep me posted how you get on;)
Edit:
I think they must have heard me, as after finishing this post noticed i've recieved an email response from them, and they are going to honor the additional 20% discount and credit my card this when the bed is delivered.
Here is there response -
Dear XXXXXXXXX
Thank you for your e-mail
When placing an order we normally only allow one discount code to be used. However, on this occasion we are
honouring both discounts.
On checking our records it shows that only the one of the discount codes was entered on your order, this was for 10% discount. Could you please email
us back once the bed has been delivered and we will refund a further 20% discount back on to your card.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
If you have any further questions or comments about the service we offer, please contact us - we're here to help.

It seems it depends on who answers the emails as to what response you recieve. It may have helped our case when we quoted the date and time we spoke to someone there who agreed the amount they took was not authorised by myself..... i don't know, but here's our email that was responded to -
I have just spoken to Betty (not real name) in your company [time] [date], as you have debited £XXX.XX from my account via the payment card i used for this order. Though i only authorised a sum of £XXX.XX which was the total of my order.
Betty advised that i can email you here where you will see my order total and credit back my card the difference. As Betty agreed you shouldn't have debited more than the authorised order total.
Please email me when this difference has been debited back to my card as i require that amount back in to my account asap, though understand can take 3-5 working days.
Regards
XXXXXX
Best of luck if you wish to persue your cases further.0 -
I just checked when i sent the one the that they responded to and it was 14/01/08/ @ 17:05.
So seems i got my reponse in less than 48 hours.
Though i did send a seperate message 10 days ago about arranging delivery, but i haven't recieved a response to that one yet.
Different department i guess0 -
After a lot of effort I've had this:As a gesture of goodwill we will honour the discount on your order, if you wish to keep the items.
I think I want to see the money first;)

What a palaver this has turned out to be
I ordered on 07 January and got an email confirming £108 on 10 January I got an email confirming despatch again at £108, It arrived 11 January and was set up and used.
I checked my online bankin 12 January to find that I had been charged £135.
I phoned Debenhams and they insisted that The would not honour the discount, I told them to come and collect it which they agreed to do, however when I told them it was used they said they could not uplift and refund.
I phoned them again and advised them that I would be contacting my credit card company to dispute the payment as it was not as agreed.
They then agreed to refund the £270 -
