I would try ringing again until you get someone more reasonable.
I spoke to someone earlier today after been charged £120 who offered to refund the difference as soon as I mentioned I had a confirmation email stating £1080 -

Unfortunately mine arrived this morning. I phoned but they 'don't have internet access, you'll have to email your query'. I couldn't exactly say 'well other people on the forum got assistance over the phone', so I shall send an email.
I assume that I asked for the correct department when my call was answered at the switchboard i.e Debenhams.com?0 -

you need the code on post 12, if you are already registered with them use a different email address and the code works or so I am told. Delivery for us was in 2 days.0 -
So has mine, i've left it sealed and after getting nowhere with responses to e-mails and telephone calls have told them today to cancel the order and come and collect it!
I've 2 invoices at £108 and one that is attached to the box is for £135 and £135 taken from my account!:mad:
Don't think i'll use debenhams in the future!:o0 -
It's stange you are having trouble getting your money back, I rang up and although I was passed around and kept on hold for 10 minutes, they did say they would refund it no problems, didn't even question any of the discounts
I hope you all manage to get the difference back, I wouldn't let it drop at all because i'm pretty sure they are not allowed to take more money out of your bank than was agreed.

No replies to e-mails at all, been 4 days now and depsite phoning i keep getting told to send an e-mail. Mines too is sitting here at my front door, just waiting to be returned.
