I just flicked over to the end of more4's grand designs abroad to see a spanish villa comming to completion, well to call it a villa is a BIG understatement, the place was on 3 levels, massive even my my grand scale and had 3 swiming pools !!!!!!.

total build cost 130,000euro, thats about £97k our money, and that was with the guy being a halfwit, changing designs part way through. now i know we need to pay the poles in this country marginally more than the spanish but !!!!!! that wouldnt get much even is rain soaked glasgow where we have no shortage of places to build.

if only our planning system wasnt so corrupt, intent on preserving the green belt and inefective for private builders we could all have nice big homes.

anyone who says we have to look after the 93% unused space scotland can bite me, i coulnt give a monkeys if it means i get a nice big home to live in without spending the rest of my life in indentured servitude to the bank.

Yes, but will the programme re-visit in 2-3 years to cover the story where half of it was demolished and he had to pay £150,000 to put a ring road round his house so a developer could build 200 homes within 100 yards of his front door without him having a say in the matter?

You can't take one snippet of another's life in isolation.

Maybe the average wage where he built that is just £9,000/year with no jobs for 30 miles. It's all relative.

i'm sure he said the amount he had to pay the builder was 130k euro, not the total cost.

Also was quite surprised that he was allowed to build in such a large unspolit area with no other houses. Lets hope for his sake they don't build a big block of flats next to that lovely lake and spoil his view!!

What's wrong with protecting the green belt? Do you really want the whole country covered in huge executive boxes and bungalows?

That's just bifurcation and so an invalid argument. It's possible to build more houses without building on every last scrap of land.
  • The programme was a re-run with the build starting in mid to late 2003.

    Nice roof & scenery.

I had to look it up too, it means a using a false dilemma for an argument.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

I like words. Hubris is a good one (and is applicable to a lot of people that post on internet boards). Quincunx is possibly my favourite.

Logic has lots of good words/phrases attached to it. Bifurcation is good. Ad hominem too.

Are you a keen gardener Gen?

Or is it just a case of magniloquence on your part?
