Having a clamp meter and an efergy monitor will not be getting you any savings, only knowledge. You truly are likely to be missing out on savings by refusing a smart meter.
Whats the certification date on your existing meter?

FYI I have solar and a battery and on average I’m paying between 7 and 8p / kWh for ALL my electricity which simply wouldn’t be possible without a smart meter.

PS, to cover off the most common questions, you have no choice, you have no right to decline, you cannot install your own meter.

I wonder why those who refuse a smart meter don't tell us why! 🤔 Arguing that "because this one works" is not a reason, we all replace things that work with something more functional. They want to replace THEIR meter with something more functional. Just because you think it works, doesn't mean they agree. Smart meters bring in analytical advantages that these companies need.

If it is out of its certification period it does need replacing whether it benefits you or not. You say you have a clamp monitor and talk about meter in the singular which suggests you don’t have gas, if that assumption is correct you can almost certainly benefit from a smart meter as it opens all the smart tariffs that you don’t have access to.

Putting to one side the potential benefits of having a smart meter that have been explained and you have ignored, it's not your choice.

The meter isn't yours. It's the responsibility of your supplier and you've already agreed to let them replace it when they want to, by virtue of having an electricity supply.

Is it just resisting change for changes sake?

Do you think it will cause upheaval?

Do you think that you are currently being undercharged or that a smart meter will overcharge.

Do you not want any potential benefits.

Do you not like modern better metering

Do you think it is your meter rather than the suppliers meter recording your consumption so you should have control.

Have you some other fear if so on what basis.

I ask these as I was reluctant to have a smart meter till fairly recently because

1. having one fitted long ago (the initial Smets1 meters) could revert to dumb if the supplier was changed and I didn't want that hassle as I had changed supplier frequently. Not an issue with the current SMETS2 meters that are now installed.

2. Automatic readings to produce a bill in other than dumb mode could be an issue in rural or areas of bad comms. New ones are now bei g fitted with comms via the mobile phone Infratructure, so if you mobile works then so should the meter comms.

3. I now wanted to save costs and I have already and I expect to have a lower bill by about £500 this year.

4. I am as a result helping the country to manage the grid better to the benefit of us all.

5. I can now run an electric car at a fuel cost of about 2p per mile rather than expensive oil based fossil fuel and that is better for the planet and lower pollution.

If you cannot give a valid reason for not wanting a smart meter we come to our own conclusions. Running a cannabis farm? Conspiracy theorist? Or worse...
