… 'an external stakeholder' which processes 'industry messages' including the profile class had the wrong data. The external stakeholder had corrected the profile class and new messages received have had the correct value as have the subsequent billing statements' Supply Number's (MPAN) Profile Class.

Although if the cable to the comms hub emerges from the top of the meter then it could be a SMETS2 meter in the north of England or Scotland, like mine.

I’ve had it confirmed that mine is SMETS2
I guess by forcing a meter swap, everyone involved in the data chain has to update their data, fixing the issue…

Yes, that's SMETS2. And made in 2022, so hardly an ancient contraption. And, it seems, originally fitted by EON!
I'm quite surprised EON can't sort it out remotely but energy suppliers do seem to make a meal of things from time to time.

too right they do. Been told today by the engineer that in order to go from a dual rate smart meter to a single rate smart meter I need to transition via a single rate ‘dumb’ meter and so they’ve fitted this and will arrange a subsequent appointment 🙄
at least it’s single rate… getting there at a snail’s pace 😂

It seems bizarre that you need to go back to a 2017-vintage L+G E110 but if it is the only way they can do it, I guess it's a necessary evil 🤔

So all those people who are told that they have to have a new meter and that it has to be a smart meter are being lied to; energy companies are perfectly capable of fitting an old dumb meter when they want to.

It's crazy not to have a smart meter. It's annoying if they don't work but in real life I've never met or known anyone with smart meter problems. The amount of savings you can make are incredible.

I agree. But some people are vehemently opposed to getting a smart meter and post about their opposition here from time to time. They sometimes get told that any replacement meter will have to be a smart meter but this disproves that contention.
Reed2 -
It only proves that E.ON have at least some of these old meters around that they are using as an unnecessary transition step for a process that doesn't require a meter change.
It certainly doesn't say anything about other suppliers or if these old meters are actually available for any other purpose with E.ON
… you almost have to wonder if E.ON are doing this to double count the installations of smart meters to hit their targets… ?
