MouldyOldDough do the other bills after April 2019 show how much you have used in the following years are more or less the same usage as before?

If no what billing date did the water usage drop ?

I would of thought the water companies would have system in place to detect unusual water usage high or low.

That said - it does drop Nov 24 - April 25 to 71 litres per day but the next 6 months it drops to 38 litres per day

No idea why or any reason - doing nothing any different.

I think that the meter is misreading - surely that's for them to realise - they take the readings and automatically bill me - no input from me at all

Just a thought - next doors meter is in the pavement by mine - you know what I'm thinking ??

I foolishly mentioned to my water supplier that we couldn't read the meter as it was underwater 6 months of the year (water table). I also found it strange that our water bill (we don't have water out) was half what it was in our previous house.

It would around 93m3 in one 6 month period and 47m3 in the next.

It turned out that the meter stopped working correctly when it was underwater (the dials were open to water). So, for half the year, our readings were not enough.

They replaced the meter and the billing went up to around 93m3 every 6 months. (fairly consistent since with 93/94 being common with actual readings).

I'm not going to do anything about it and plead ignorance if they ever pick it up !!

I am not expected to do any meter readings and pay my bills by DD.

I presume that you have checked that it is your meter that you are being billed for ?

Check the meter serial number against the meter serial number on your bill.

and a simple sanity test by running and stopping taps when someone is watching the little spinny dial. Turn off any adjacent stop tap and make sure it’s your water it turns off.

We have two small square iron covers - (like small manholes) outside our front gate, set into the pavement

They both have dials in them - set almost 2 feet down - I can't see any numbers on either

From what I understand - the meter reading is taken with a device that automatically detects the id number

I think grey team is saying is to check the meters to see if they are for your property and and the serial number is the one on your bill.

As you have now said there are 2 meters a check would be good.

My meter is not that far down compared to you but when they fitted it it was at an angle so you can't read it by eye and and using a mobile with flash on glares the photo. I have to use a borascope to get a good reading.

I can't really see it being a wrong meter if you have had it years and only recently started under reading.

Have you asked your neighbour if their water meter bills are ok?

I can't see any flaps outside the neighbours - so guess that one of ours is theirs ?

I shouldn’t rely on guesswork in this situation!
