Been to Melbourne for a family party…local not the one down under and only went wrong once (despie the satnav - missed a turning). Got back with no issues but that's because I followed DS and DiL.

Had left washing out so that has dried.

Well DS1 and I walked 16.6 miles and climbed nearly 2000 feet. It was hard, especially the last couple of miles but I am so thankful that I am physically capable of doing it and that I have a son who wants to spend most of his Saturday striding out on a hike with his Mother trotting along behind him puffing and panting 😂.

Zero flying unless you count putting the DW on and throwing my sweaty hiking gear in the washing machine.

Tomorrow may be a write off, we have to visit Mothers but I can't see much else being done.

    Is it bedtime yet?

    Evening,

Been AWOL again for a couple of weeks so apologies for not being up with Fred.

First week I was spending every evening painting the new bedroom door ready for the kids sleepover on my birthday weekend. And then I went down with the horrendous cold on top of a migraine which left me wiped out for over a week. I'm gradually clearing the cold/flu and have a doctors appointment (tel call) next Saturday when I will tell her that by then (unless a miracle happens next week) I will have had a headache everyday for 4 weeks or more. Its becoming a mental drag now and I want a resolution.

Anyhow flying has mostly been restricted to the dailies although last weekend I did a clear out and recky of the understairs cupboard (commonly referred to as the shop). I discovered DH had 27 different types of beer & cider under there (which he had obviously bought at various times and forgotten about) so he now has a Google list and I have an up to date list of my dry store goods.

Does anyone know how long home made jam lasts - I found a box with about 30 jars and it must be at least 2/3 years old.

Today I sorted through my birthday flowers and got rid of the dead ones and decluttered the ok ones into one vase. I hoovered through the ground floor and up the stairs before DS turned up with the kids in advance of mothers day.

I have reconciled the pennies and am exactly £20 out. Checked and rechecked all the accounting which is right so it must have been from one of the shops I went into last Sunday and gave too much cash as I haven't been anywhere since which is so frustrating. I don't like these plastic notes and don't use my cards as I dont want to get into muddles again.

Yesterday evening I completed a biggy and managed to clear 1370 emails from my inbox. I had some in there that needed to be saved so had to go through the lot so need to keep on top of it now.

DH has today removed the paint and other DIY stuff from the landing into the garage, and tomorrows job is to clear the other half of the landing which is stuff that came out of the old room that is now the bathroom. Some will be dumped, some will be charity shopped and some sentimental stuff is likely to have to be found a home in the attic.

I think that's it for now so thanks to you all for keeping the thread going especailly our leaders Natty & Valli

You will be fine - if it has been stored out of sunlight and the lids are still secure it should be good. I have stored hm jam for at least this long with no ill effects. Didn't want (or need) to quote your whole post but couldn't clip the bit I was replying o.

A lovely day…following the trip earlier the Vallikids and their other halves came for a takeaway and then we sat round the table playing a 'name that tune' type game. Foil containers soaked then washed for recycling. Leftover food in green bin and dw will deal with the pots, Happy days.

The jams and preserves you buy in the store may have been canned even earlier than that. You have no idea when they were made, same as any canned food. Only the date they won't "guarantee" they are at their best by. It's not like things are bottled or canned and then sold immediately. Takes time to work their way through the food distribution chain.
