Sky Broadband - switching provider after price rise advice

Have you notified Sky that you are exercising your right to leave due to be the price rise?

Yes, I asked specifically this.

I've just been on a call and they say they have waived any termination charges, so we'll have to see when the switch takes place in a few weeks time and when my final bill from Sky comes through.

What a nightmare Sky are. I contacted sky twice to argue my case for leaving due to them breaking the ofcom rules . The first agent denied the existence of this rule , the second agent agreed I could leave without charge . When I check my bill it was for a refund of the current months unused broadband.
Alls we'll until I received an email telling me they have written to me to tell me about termination charges, which they never did, and that they would put the debt in the hands of a debt collection service if they couldn't take the money off any debit cards they have registered in my name . The debt was for a charge of £16.50. I was only 10 months in to a 24 month contract so where did that come from .
Another phone call and the agent agreed that I shouldn't have had that email but did not have access to that system. . He couldn't tell me where the debt amount came from so he credited my account with £16.50 to cancel it out .
You need to check your bills online because they change with the weather, you need to check your current bill and your next bill to see what they're up to.
To get that email which they say is automated and nothing to do with them is a disgrace and caused me a lot of anxiety.
My whole dealings with Sky have been a nonsense and the wording of all their emails is obscure and devious . They purposely obfuscate the correspondence to confuse you and intimidate you. I am sure they are playing the numbers game hoping the majority will just pay up because of their greed .
I've ended up better off money wise but I would not want to go through this process again which is probably their intent.

What Ofcom rules do you think Sky have broken?

If someone exercises their right to leave Sky broadband when notified of the increase ( in the appropriate timeframe ) although there shouldn’t be any early termination charges (so no requirement to pay for the remaining months of the minimum term ) but you would still expect a final bill paying for what’s been used until you leave , and you can’t really expect them to know that until the new ISP completes the transfer , giving Sky a final date for the last bill , hence getting a bill after you have left is to be expected, any overpayment made should be refunded hence it’s not a good idea to cancel the direct debit or credit card payment arrangement.

I cancelled mine on 2nd, effective yesterday (24th). I've set up mobile broadband router instead, which will save money. Still a bit of fixed external antenna experimentation to do, but it's ok. Separate VoIP, which I already did for outgoing calls.
Three days ago the account still showed future bills of £25 stretching into the distance. I reread some of this thread and phoned up on Thursday. Yes the cancellation is agreed, and there will be no termination charges …
It went off yesterday morning. I phoned again and asked about the return packaging, as I'd forgotten that on previous call. That would be sent some time in next two months. I asked about the bill, I think it's paid in advance, so will there be a part refund next month. Yes
Yesterday two text messages at lunchtime (40 minutes after my call) say the packaging is on its way
Log in the account, and it's got a list of cancelled items below the latest bill, and next month shows -£15.83 estimated, cancellation credit for 19 days, after that zeros
So it all sounds good, but other folks' experience on this thread still makes me wary. I've just done screenshots of those two bill pages

Depending on your location and mobile signal might be worth trying THREE. If you're happy with your existing speed and don't need any more you'll probably achieve that with 5G depending on your location. The current offer from three is upto 150Mb for £14 with a £60 gift card. Looks like the offer is available for the next couple of weeks.
