Sky Broadband - switching provider after price rise advice
Hi all,
I had an email from Sky on 20th Feb saying my broadband prices were going up by £3.00 in April. It is my understanding that I can leave penalty free because of this, but only within 30 days of being notified. My contract doesn't officially end until May 2027.
I have spoken with Sky via chat and they offered nothing but switching me to full fibre for the same price, which they offered to do for free a few months ago anyway. I assume I can get better deals elsewhere, so will leave.
I asked about how that penalty free process works and they said that I can switch "through One Touch Switch, and we'll waive the early termination for you" so I assume I can just start a switch with another provider and the penalty will automatically be waived.
I'm not 100% sure how this works and am worried about being charged by them. Does this all sound correct?
This would also mean I would switch right at the end of March, how does that work for the monthly cost with a new provider? Will it be the April prices or a percentage of the March prices before April rises kick in?
I assume I cannot wait an extra month and then switch, I have to do it within the 30 days to avoid the penalty?
Lastly, can anyone recommend places to search best deals other than MSE? The prices I'm being quoted here are only a couple of pounds cheaper than what I will be paying with Sky, even with cashback voucher etc being included.
Thanks for the help!

According to both Moneysaving Expert Broadband Compare and TCB Broadband Compare which gives highest rewards the next Vodafone Broadband price rise for new signups will be on 1 April 2027.
Usually taking out a new BT/EE contract from March 1st onwards avoids same year price rise.

Re "I asked about how that penalty free process works and they said that I can switch "through One Touch Switch, and we'll waive the early termination for you" so I assume I can just start a switch with another provider and the penalty will automatically be waived."
On this page - - under the heading "If you have Sky+, Sky Q, or Sky Broadband & Talk", third paragraph after the bullet points, it says:
"If you intend to cancel Sky Broadband using the Broadband One Touch Switch service, please call us on 0344 824 4450 within 30 days of receiving your notification to avoid early termination charges being applied to your account."
So it could be worth giving that number a call.

I spotted that number mention too — which added to my confusion. I don't know why the person from Sky that I spoke to on chat didn't mention it, even after I asked for confirmation a couple of times what I needed to do in order to leave without penalty.

None of those offers or prices are appearing for me. On MSE the cheapest is Virgin Media M125 Fibre for the equivalent of £20.83 per month, but i don't want to go with Virgin Media. The next best is annoyingly Sky Full Fibre for the equivalent of £20.83, and the first one that I could take is Plusnet Full Fibre 145 for the equivalent of £23.04 per month.
I can't quite believe that's the best option around. It's not much different to just staying with Sky. I feel like I must be missing something and there are better deals available, but maybe not.
I get around 70Mb currently and don't need to go higher — but there doesn't seem to be much optionn for cheaper services at lower speeds anymore.
Via Money Supermarket, Pop Telecom has an offer for Fibre 80 on an 18 month contract which is a little cheaper at an average of £21.34 per month, but it doesn't include a router so I assume that expense will make up the difference.

I'm not sure what you were hoping for but those prices you quote are good. What are you paying Sky and what service is it?

I'm surprised I've not received an email yet from Sky, I only joined them at the end of January and although my estimated bill for April has increased from £25:to £28 I've not had any email confirmation yet. I don't particularly want to jump ship as I've still got cashback coming and also a large voucher.

Sky Broadband Superfast - was £22 per month and now going up to £25. I've been with them for nine months.
(just to clarify - the prices I quoted are with cashback included)

Do you know if I need to be new to TopCashBack to do this? I am not. But I don't think I have got broadband via them before at all.
