I’m wondering if it’s because I changed to single person part way through the year so had overpaid in effect, hence the lower amount for the rest of the year. As it’s now calculated and spread throughout the year, that’s the reason for the large increase. It’s worth investigating though.

Counclls can't raise CT by more than 5% without a local referendum so the figures definitely sound wrong. I would contact your Council to find out what's going on. It sounds like they may not have taken the discount off for this year.

The discount is definitely listed on there, I will check up on it, but I suspect it’s because I ‘overpaid’ last year when it got reduced part way through the year.

I think for sure it's that you had overpaid for a while last year so it was reduced accordingly and now you're paying the full single person amount. Sadly!

I was outraged for you too until you said about the overpayments being adjusted for last year. Unfortunately, this sounds the most likely situation doesn’t it.

Sadly it does. The irony is that I work for the same local authority, no April pay rise! The usual scenario is that it goes through unions, a well below inflation rise is agreed and backdated sometime later in the year.

I’ve just logged onto my Chase account as it’s the 1st of the month to see the interest added.

My emergency fund has had £5.38 added so now stands at £2005.38 in there. I was offered a promotional interest rate of 4.25% on that for a year, then it drops to 2.25%. I’m hoping there’ll be another such offer when this ends in December, otherwise I’ll look to move it to a cash ISA.

I’m also doing the fiver Friday challenge and had 14p interest on that so that now stands at £85.30.

As I think I said at the start of this diary, when everything blew up, I contacted CAB to help with my debts and signed for them to speak to creditors on my behalf. It was what I needed at the time as I literally couldn’t put any thoughts together. Through this, I’ve had 2 debts written off so far. Usually I email and my assigned worker is quick to reply. However, I emailed around 16th March and have heard nothing back. I thought maybe they had annual leave so left it for a while. I feel now in a position to manage things myself, but am unsure whether to wait until all creditors have replied or to take back the control now. If and when I do manage it myself, I would like copies of letters and emails sent to creditors on my half so that I know exactly what information they’ve been given etc so know what to do going forward. I’m not sure if they will agree to that or not but it would be helpful to me. However, until I hear back from her, I’m a bit in the dark as to how to proceed as I don’t know where in the process things are.

I think that is just my thoughts and ramblings for today! I’m going to the running group again tonight although I think my thighs may protest! The front of them hurting walking up and downstairs!!

under gdpr and the right to data portability, cab should be able to give you electronic copies of correspondence issued on your behalf.

Morning! I’ve got a cuppa in bed with my 2 dogs asleep next to me, I need to get up soon as it’s an office day today.

I emailed my CAB worker again yesterday and I’ve not had a reply, I’ll leave it until next week and then I’ll have to call the generic number I think. I am wondering if she is off sick but I’d have thought if it was a long term thing my case would be assigned to someone else. Feeling a bit in the dark with it all at the moment.

A long weekend coming up, I’ve not got many plans, which scares me a bit, I’m finding that when I’ve got too much time on my hands my thoughts wander, to good and bad times and to how the future will look. I’m meeting a friend in a local coffee shop so that’ll break up the day. I need to make a loose plan for the weekend, I need to sort things in the house and give it a really good clean so maybe I’ll have a spring clean weekend which will make me feel better.

    Right, I’d best get up!
