Hi all, I decided to take some lieu hours and spoil myself today. I went for a facial then up to our local Forestry Commission visitor centre where I did a short walk and had coffee and a scone in the cafe, it was sleeting most of the time and I had the cafe to myself. I stayed off my phone and just enjoyed the quiet.
Then home to light the fire and curl up with my book.
Before I went out I gave the kitchen a good clean, ran the hoover around and put all the clean washing away. The house is reasonably presentable.
No idea what we are doing tomorrow, it's actually supposed to be sunny which will be a real treat.

Lots of dentist stuff going on, glad it’s not an abscess Valli, they are a nightmare.Despite 8am work I managed to wash the bathroom floor before I started and then have not done much since as had to take an early break when DIL delivered her dog the weekend. Usually mine and theirs are best buddies but he is still wearing a doughnut following his second surgery (he managed to split his stitches after the first one 🥺). Evie is petrified of him and can’t be in the same room. They did just both go outside for a wee and I struggled to get her in again and only managed it by enticing her in with chicken after I shut him in the middle room.
At least when the dogs get fed he will have to have his doughnut off so she might be okay after that. It’s really weird. Tomorrow I have got to take him for a check up and as their local vet isn’t open I will need to take him to their partners which is just short of an hour each way.Next steps is to decide if one of us is going for fish and chips or whether I need to cook then I have the DW to unload and I need to put washing in before DD gets all hers going over the weekend.

Evening all.
I'm glad you decided to take some time for yourself, YL - you deserve it xx
I'm still coughing and feeling a bit chesty and totally drained, so today I've reverted to not doing much in the way of flying 😒 I did manage to make my bed, S&S bathroom and kitchen, and do a modicum of admin this morning, then DH and I drove to our favourite GC café to visit on a Friday, as this one always serves a good special of fish and chips (we were very restrained and shared one portion of chips between us, but the size of the cod fillets made up for that!) On the way we saw lots of snowdrops, including a carpet of flowers in a small orchard by the village church, and after our meal we had a very short walk round the GC greenhouses, but it was so cold and wet that I couldn't wait to get home. DH showed me something I hadn't known about his car - there are heaters in the seats - so at least I managed to warm up a bit on the way back.
Once home, I wrapped myself up in my sofa blanket, put my feet up, and read two chapters of a book that I need to finish this weekend: I've also got to re-read another by Tuesday so that I can take part in our Lent course at church. Then I watched a bit of the Olympics and slept for an hour or so, until I was woken up by DS1 phoning for a catch-up.
Tea was a quick leek and potato soup, and now DH has gone off to wargames club. Apparently his little group is going to play the board game "Escape from Colditz" (the original version) as a change from re-enacting some minor battle from WW2 with figurines. Rosie and I have come upstairs so that I can wrap up some birthday presents for DDiL2 and DGS3+4, and I expect that will use up the last of my energy for today.
Hope everyone has a good weekend xxx

- up to date fairly reasonably with flying although I need to tackle the bedroom as the dust seems relentless.
- did aqua zumba yesterday and zumba today
- DW and WM seem busy at the moment
- bought sympathy card for waterways chaplain who has just lost her Mum, and get well card for stepsister who has gone back into hospital after a painful and seemingly non-healing hip replacement. They will be sent/delivered tomorrow, as will Valentine's day cards. Yes; I bought one, went to hide it in my filing cabinet only to find I'd already bought one some time ago.
- we've made the difficult and upsetting decision to cease feeding the birds for a few weeks as we've found a dead goldfinch and worse, a dead greenfinch lately; both had been seen sitting on branches looking to have symptoms of trichomoniasis. While Mr N has always been vigilant in disinfecting the feeders and jet-washing the area around them, it only needs one diseased bird to step/sit on the clean parts and re-infect others so we need to break the cycle. It's really hard for us as we get a lot of pleasure watching all the birds in our garden; we nearly always have lunch sitting in the conservatory watching them; however our pleasure isn't worth the suffering and death of our feathered friends. We can't even feed the carcases to our local kite (who usually scoops up any rodents we've trapped in the house).
- have booked another couple of tickets for shows; one opera and one rock
- now planning a holiday to Northumberland in May so lots of vouchers to seek and admin to do.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.7 -
Good evening and happy weekend!
May I please re-join? It's been a while. I had a quick nosy through fred and it was lovely to read some familiar names.
By way of a quick update: I still work full-time as a civil servant, although DH retired at Christmas (and is currently impersonating a chocolate teapot where flying is concerned). DS 2 (21) still at home/uni, DS1 (31) married to our lovely DIL and I'm the very proud grannie to16-month old Reuben. I get to look after him every other Friday for a few hours. We still have 2 furbabies - Buzz the dog will be 13 in March and Skye the cat is probably a couple of years older. I'm involved in our local church and help with collections for a community fridge up to 3 times a week. Last year was tough as MIL's Alzheimer's worsened, she also had other medical problems and eventually passed away on 5 November. I think DH is still processing (or rather avoiding it) and struggling to get his head around things. I qualified for my teachers' pension in Dec 2025 and the lump sum has funded some long overdue work on the house, with more to come this year. We never really caught up with ourselves after the kitchen was done last February. I took me all of March to recover and then MIL needed a lot of support, so our house went back to the bottom of the list. It really needs wrestling under control, so I thought coming back to flying was my best chance. The ploy is going to be to leave the list somewhere visible, so DH can't miss it. If he asks, I'll say it's my list, but he'll hopefully start to join in. He did say that he would find his own jobs to do, but that's not happening, so this is plan B. I'll ask DS2 to chip in, in the hope that it will
encourageguilt trip his dad. I know I'm joking about things, but I am a bit worried because, with hindsight, I'm sure he became depressed after leaving the army in the late 80s, and his behaviour now is very similar.Apologies for the rambling and rather longer than intended post. The weekend will be busy (tomorrow - quick visit to DS1's, small food shop, help DH pick new glasses, dog walk, quick visit to a friend and drop some flowers off at another friend's who is going through a tough time, cook tea in time for DS2 to start his bar job at 7; Sunday - church, get DS2 to work at lunchtime, walk the dog and crack on with flying).
I'll have a look at the week's lists in a moment and will post a cautiously ambitious list for myself for the weekend.

Thank you for the lists, Valli. This is what I'm aiming for. May not look like much to seasoned flyladies, but I've so often overestimated what I can manage. I don't have high hopes for DH to get involved much over the weekend. I think his time will be Mon-Fri if and when he gets into it, but I will feel better for having made a start.

Anything else will be a bonus!

Morning all xx
Where did that week go? 😳
👋 to MrsChaos.
I had a good week at work. It's so refreshing to be able to say that week after week 😊
GP phoned me on Monday to ask why I hadn't been in for my test results? Because I was waiting for them to ask! He said he'd send a task. When I still hadn't heard anything by Thursday I phoned the Surgery - to be told that the GP had made me an appointment for Friday morning. Ermmm. When were they planning on letting me know? Quick discussion with work to let me attend the appointment. GP has referred me to ENT and Endocrinology. There is a small chance the lump may be malign but more of a chance that it won't be. The Propranolol that I've been taking to curb anxiety symptoms for years is masking the effects of my over active thyroid - so keep taking it. I may need surgery. I may not. Then he checked my blood pressure - which was fine. 😊
Pops is in hospital in Benidorm. Again. He'll have an endoscopy to remove a stone on Monday. He had his gallbladder removed last year so I'm not sure where this stone is or where it came for 🤔
The sun is shining. Yayyyy. Freezing here but no snow. And it's weeeeekeeeennnd woot woot. I've made my bed and the plan is to complete the rest of the Saturdailies interspersed with watching the Winter Olympics. And pay the gas bill.
Love to all.

Welcome back Mrs Chaos. Think you've got nominative determinism in action. Congrats on the grandson.
It's sunny so I shall get up shortly snd peg washing out and clean the hutches.
Got tha pharmacist from thre GP ringing Monday to discuss my 3 year medication ending - it's whats caused the slow tooth healing and it stops me having coffee in bed and I'm so hoping I am right with the date and it is stopping. There's no actual pharmacy at the GP so this must be the person who deals with repeat prescriptions.
