It took me a while to figure it out, at first I thought the riddle was to do with the moon.

Then I remembered Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain, (I.e. the colours in a rainbow) using the hint (look to the beginning. Do those colours have something to do with the cryptic verse?)

Vast among the stars she lies,

In woven threads across the skies.

Remote she seems, yet charts our way,

Guide of dusk from night to day.

Others shine, but none so still – 

the maiden bound to heaven’s will.

I then applied each colour to the first letter of each line in the riddle, so V= Violet, I= Indigo, R= Red G= Green and O= Orange

If you look at the back of the pack you will see “STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS” next to Edge Inscription. Take a close look at the letters and you will see.

They stand where ravens guard the gate,
