The Royal Mint - Great British Treasure Hunt

Thanks to those who have tried to explain, I just don't understand it at all because it's entirely against the spirit of the hunt to just give answers away, and as I said, ruins everyone's chances. At least those who've attempted to explain the answers is a bit better than those who've just outright posted the solutions with absolutely no "working out" steps.

Exactly. From my perspective, entering competitions is a fun hobby. I enter the comps that interest me and then forget them, regardless of the prize. I do not wait with expectation and anticipation that I am going to win, skill required or not. If sometime in the future a WEM appears, this is a rare and gratefully received bonus. The thrill is in the unexpectedness of that event and the reward is the receipt of something that often would have been impossible for me to experience otherwise. I have won prizes that I would never have thought to purchase or been able to afford. I have won things which had little value but brought great joy to myself or friends. I have spent many hours on skill-based competitions (Radio Times Christmas quiz comes to mind) and there is a feeling of accomplishment in solving these on your own, but I personally feel a greater sense of community by sharing such with others and appreciating their own inputs to complement my own. Whether I win or not is not the point. As I have said, the odds are stacked against you in any competition, one chance in 20,000 may be better than the Lottery, but still pretty bad and the addition of an extra 20/40/100 entries from a forum like this one is negligible.

I’m doing it for the family glory haha. They all think I’m brilliant and well clever. I’ve only needed help with one answer (the gps coordinates, I couldn’t figure out what the Tower of London meant) But apart from that it’s all been me.
I would like to know how many are actually through to the final round…. assume it will just be a prize draw with all the winners.

Nice One!!
On the site it states the following in the FAQ's and T&C's
One winner will be selected at random on or shortly after 31 March 2026, using an online independent True Random Number generator from all eligible entrants, and will be notified by email. See Terms and Conditions below for more information.
Claiming the prize
17. Once the winner has been notified by email, they will have 48 hours from being notified to respond to claim their prize and confirm their eligible address for delivery. If the winner fails to claim their prize, or chooses not to claim it, the prize will be forfeited and a new winner drawn.
Make sure you check your emails on the Tuesday!!😎
Good Luck

Venus123 I totally agree.
Yes it’s a fun activity but £30,000 is a LOT of money for most people so when you have the likes of this being said:
“Prize value makes little difference to most folk on here” and also the implication that they likely couldn’t complete all the puzzles themselves without collaborating with others just beggars belief! Isn’t that the point? If you can’t solve them on your own do you really deserve to win? It’s like going on the X factor knowing that you can’t sing, but thinking they might be able to give you vocal training regardless!
I found this forum just by simply typing Great British treasure hunt answers into google just to see if the answers were readily available anywhere if people were to look for them.
This forum came straight up as the first result.
I have solved all the puzzles myself so I wanted to see what my chances of winning is likely to be. Clearly not that high now.
Somebody above said that there was 20,000 players competing; how do they know this?
Given how easy this forum was to find and how freely the answers have been made available, it’s less a competition and more of a raffle. It’s no more a test of solving logic puzzles if you were giving the answers away, not just to a select few on this forum but really anyone that looks on google!
You are pretty naive if you truly believe that putting all the answers here would only decrease your odds by only 0.001/0.002/0.005% (20/40/100 with your assumption of 20,000 participants). What is much more likely given the prize money and how easy it was to find this forum, you collectively have decreased your chances by I imagine at least 20%, if not more.
It’s like an athlete. Would you prefer to win from your own perseverance, years of training and skills you have honed, knowing that you are part of an elite few, or just take the easy route and take steroids - which would give you the greatest sense of achievement?

@kalelmatt it tells you on their website how many players there are
A groundbreaking experience built around a coin unlike any other. Inspired by the legacy of Sir Isaac Newton, it is the gateway to an epic nationwide quest. Over 20,000 people are already playing - are you ready to join the hunt?

It seems that many people have struggled with some clues and would never have got this far without help. If those who manage to solve 5.1 could refrain from giving any help for the last puzzle, that may redress the balance. Maybe moderators could ensure this happens.

We do try to avoid Flame Wars on this site, though they have occasionally occurred (the Real Fur Coat Fiasco comes to mind) and this seems to be turning into one. There are entrenched opposing opinions along the lines of altruism and cooperation vs individual enterprise, so I am not going to contribute further apart from a final point. I would suggest that if it was purely a skills based competition then the FIRST complete and correct answer should be the winner, not a random draw.

I'm pretty sure the Royal Mint themselves may have been just as concerned about the possibility of answers being shared easily and already had that base covered. Breath easy everyone, relax in peace, and "Good Luck!" It's just a bit of fun.
