The website has been updated to state that no passbook will be issued if the account was opened online, so the CS appear to have been spot on in their advice.
Wonder how this affects accounts that already have a passbook but were opened online. Online had limited functionality the last time I logged in, so time to try resurrecting my online access. The account would be slightly more appealing if indeed it is possible to get money out online. I prefer not to chase EA rates and would happily use the account as a dripping tray if it's no longer necessary to pay postage. 4 withdrawals a society year so 8 between now and next October if timed right.

Been away a couple of weeks so this has probably been discussed but a pleasant surprise to be offered a Lloyds 8% RS when switching from the Halifax App.
