On this subject, I must say I do like the remaining allowance bar that Ecology have, which confirms that it is definitely £200 per month. Very useful for an account likely to see ad hoc funding due to the early closure only condition.
Perhaps the confusion has arisen from EBS being used as abbreviation somewhere. ESBS would mean Earl Shilton, but very easy to think that EBS meant that when the Earl Shilton account came along a few days later.

To be fair, none of them were showing for me, which I why I posted. Just trying to be helpful.

You say:
Miss any payments
No stated penalty for missing payments
ESBS say:
How do I open and manage my account?

- Failure to make a deposit of at least £1 per month will result in account closure

I do wish they'd sort out the text editor, it'd be so handy if we could see the full trail of quotes in each message, it'd avoid so much confusion.
Earl Shilton BS (ESBS) Online RS
The info was correct when I posted it so shan't be changed on the archived thread. The term you've added has been slipped in by them since it was launched.

I'll update p1 of this thread to reflect the additional term though, but for anyone who applied before the term was added, you've good grounds to complain if they try enforcing the ``Failure to make a deposit of at least £1 per month will result in account closure" rule as it wasn't in the terms when you applied.

Monmouthshire BS
Not sure how many have the branch accounts of the RS, I opened one last year that is due to mature on the 28th of this month. I received my maturity instructions in the post today and there was nothing exciting to pick as a maturity account and hence I intend to withdraw the funds to my bank, unless something good appears in the meantime.
To do this, I was expecting to complete the form and maybe send back my passbook (latter not required it seems). What I was not expecting was having to supply an original or certified copy of my bank statement for the account I want to withdraw too.
I have requested one from my bank now and I should get it within 5 to 10 working days, cutting it close. Wanted to give a heads up to anyone else that has one maturing shortly, that they might want to get a paper statement request underway.

Re Monmouthshire Branch Account. If you go to the link on the letter posted out it gives you 3 options. Open one of the new accounts, have a cheque posted to you or alternatively have the money paid into another existing Monmouthshire account. I have chosen the third of these options and will manually transfer the money out on maturity. No option online to pay directly to an external account. I could have taken the form into a branch but I don't think that would have saved me any effort.

The building society movement has seen some significant consolidation over the last 20+ years and this concentration into fewer and fewer organisations has impacted on the diversity of financial institutions open on the high street. It's worth remembering that many societies are quite specialised and some of the smaller societies are very small operations often with limited resources.
The difference in size between the 3-5 largest and their next "rivals" is an absolute chasm, this can be lost on someone looking at a website and used to instantaneous service say from the large banks who have resources which dwarf even the largest building societies. I'd looked at ESBS previously and mostly their product is aimed (understandably) at people living in their postcode area - nice to see them offering products nationally hopefully it will bring them much-needed resources.2 -
Didn't you get a prepaid envelope to return the form?
I also thought about letting it go into another account and withdrawing that way, I am assuming that will also require some proof of bank account and due to the timing of the maturity for me, it would mean I would not get the funds back until after the bank holiday

Fair enough. At least you didn't ask how to open a Halifax regular saver without having a current account 😁
