And there it is, thank you! Why wouldn’t it be somewhere completely different to all the rest of the savings accounts…
This new Zopa app really feels like a step backwards to me.

Just apply Hutber's rule roughly meaning "any much heralded improvement from a corporate body masks an actual detioration in service"
Coined by the late Patrick Hutber, City Editor of the Daily Telegraph(early 1980's?)

I kind of get their thinking, the RS is a 'benefit' of having the current 'Biscuit' account, not one of their savings accounts (Pots) available to everyone.
Still really annoying though, why not just hide it if you don't have the CA.

As if the wait for an account number isn't bad enough, ESBS are sending new customers emails to say their account number is finally available when it's not. They sent me one on Wednesday and after the hassle of logging in three times to no avail I phoned them yesterday. They said they had been overwhelmed (seems they were naïve about how attractive £500pm @ 6% would be). Also advised me to make sure my payment reached them by 4.45pm.

We know, because it's actually in the post you quoted.

They're the 41st (of 42) building societies in the UK by assets:-

They've just done the equivalent of opening a large restaurant with a tiny kitchen - and have discovered that business is dependent on the capacity of the facilities not the size of the shop window.
Hopefully, they'll catch up but they do not have the resources of the Nationwide so it may take a little while.2 -
According to a list on Wikipedia placing them as 41st, they only have 27 staff. Management aren't going to be manually opening accounts, leaving them with even less to process a pile of applications. To take other examples of recent popular accounts, Ecology have 25 staff but the account opens automatically at the point of application, so are in a better position having 2 fewer staff but much less manual processing. Teachers and Buckinghamshire are both listed as employing 39.

With smaller building societies it's worth being patient and not unnecessarily phoning them which will just add to their backlog.

Am I missing something vital? My Ecology regular save only allows £200 - not the £500 quoted above.
I am using the main computer (not my phone) and can log in with no issues - funded the day after I applied 8th August and standing order set up - no issues logging on or waiting for an account number …
