I had a text saying thank you for your application, then shortly afterwards another text with a link to a portal to check it's status. The link told me my application had been successful.
I've become used to all the Co-op systems being clunky and slow, but was impressed with that.
Unfortunately it hasn't advanced from there.

Yep, that's the best strategy if you're not sure. I never gave it a proper thought because I have enough float to fund Mansfield Milestone up to the max allowance, but £1 - £500 per month may also mean you can't deposit less than a £1. It's not very clear, so in the event of funds shortage it's best to make a minimum deposit to be on safe side.

Saffron monthly Refer a Friend maturity
Just as an update. I've received the maturity email. Although the instructions say there may be a maturity manager I can't see this option on the app or website.
In any case there aren't, as yet, any accounts which strike me as decent so currently I'll simply let this mature and withdraw from the easy access.

How long do withdrawals from Newcastle Building Society take? are they same day?

Same day on working days, if requested by 4pm. See the FAQ: Do you offer a faster payment facility?
In my experience the payments arrive in around 1 to 2 hours

Precisely the same experience for me. Pleased to see we received exactly the same compensation.

Further text this morning, saying your new regular saver is now open.
Quite impressed with that; matured, emptied, applied for a new one, opened and funded with the first £250 within 24 hours.

Re. Saffron maturity, the maturity manager option usually appears a few days after the maturity email.

It looks pretty clear to me 🤓
However, Mansfield's regular savers have traditionally allowed for two monthly subscriptions to be missed in an account year, which I suspect is what you recall.

Mansfield
They also allow payments exceeding the monthly limit. I've accidentally made 2x£250 into 5.10% Bonus RS in January. The extra £250 is still there, they didn't return it. I don't know if it's a glitch or they are not enforcing the limit. I didn't explore this avenue any further, but in theory the same could work for an extra £500 to Milestone🙂.
