Is the course going to benefit you in the long term? Is it something you would want to invest in anyway?

Yes, it's a work based training project that I will need if I am going to make senior level in my industry. This way is better in some ways, as I would lead a project through my workplace (downside is the bizarreness of my workplace). But it can be used in other workplaces later. I am quite irritated that some really quite wealthy people who don't contribute much have been offered funded places and weren't made to jump through nearly so many hoops, while I have to struggle through and pay a fortune for the same opportunity. Old boys club.

That sounds really unfair! 😔 personally, I'd be refusing to do free additional hours for a company who was not willing to invest in me - you seem to do an awful lot for an organisation who has spent a long time messing you around on the training and passing you over for promotion 🤔
I know it's hard when you have an excellent work ethic to back off a bit, but you need to put your own wellbeing above your job - your health (physical and mental) is the only thing that is important long term; burnout will leave you financially worse off eventually and can destroy your future - don't let your loyalty be your undoing!

I decided I'm going to perform better at it than they do - it's a bit immature, but it makes me happy 😠

True enough, though the effort I make is less for the company and more for the sake of my career, and also the work itself which is important to me. I think when times are hard and motivation is thin, you have to be doing things for the right reasons. That's mostly carried me through all sorts of work stormy weather. The place may be ridiculous, but there are individual people there who I really have a lot of time for. I will step back a bit where possible though, as I am going to need to earn some money outside of my job.

GUESS WHAT!!!!! My employer has said they will fund my training. I have to pay a bit towards it but that's not so bad - it's no longer in the thousands where I will be losing sleep over finding the money. It's like a rollercoaster isn't it. I ended up speaking to one of the directors about it today (this one is really good; it's the same one who invited me out for a coffee last month to tell me I will succeed here but it just hasn't been my time yet). It all got sorted today - really rapidly - I think some people are just good at making things happen. They can't give me any extra time to do it this year as everyone is overstretched (to be fair, I'm less bothered about that than the money), but I can probably have extra time next year. I'll be ok without the time as the money removes the need to be working all the time in self employment to pay.
Finally a good thing 😁❤️
