Extended Christmas return - Currys

Bought £600 fridge from Currys 1st week of Dec, for home delivery. Was delivered to the empty property I was due to move into in Jan, in readiness for me moving in. Paid for installation which involved delivery guy plugging it into mains to check it was working and adjusting one of the adjustable treads so it was straight. Its been left unused in the empty property til now. My housing situation has now changed unexpectedly due to work so Im no longer going to be moving into that house. Where I will now be living already has a fridge so I asked Currys if I can return it under their extended Christmas returns (as it was delivered over 30 days ago and isnt faulty). Currys website states 'for purchases made between 29 October 2025 and 24 December 2025 you can return unwanted products until 23 January. T&Cs apply'. There is no link to what those T&Cs are and I cant find any specific extended Christmas returns T&Cs anywhere on the website. They asked me to submit a video of the item, which I did. They say that because it has been 'installed' (ie switched on after delivery), it would be non-returnable even if it were within the standard 30 days, nevermind the Christmas extension. I asked them to direct me to where on the website the Christmas specific T&Cs are and she couldnt find it. When booking installation it doesnt mention anywhere that 'installation' precludes you from returning it and there is nothing on the website item description stating this. There is also nothing stating that the item is excluded from their extended Christmas returns policy. Im expecting a call back from a manager. While I wouldnt have attempted a return if it was outside the usual 30 days, given Currys advertises this return extension I expected it would be covered. By what theyre saying, any fridge thats ever been plugged into the mains on delivery (even by the delivery guy as part of their £40 'installation service', when they check that its working) is non-returnable. That cant be right - and not mentioned when you buy installation. Now potentially stuck with an expensive brand new, unused fridge with nowhere to store it. Has anyone experienced this with Currys?

    An internet search says

    CONDITIONS FOR EXTENDED RETURNS

Unopened and Unused - Can be returned for a full refund

Opened but Unused - Returnable within 14 days of delivery

Used Items - Only returnable if faulty

Think you are going to fail on either 2nd or 3rd. You have had it for 6 weeks.

Whilst they may have extended your contractual rights your statutory rights remain the same no matter what time you buy it so your right to return has expired and they can stipulate that items that are 6 weeks old at the time of requesting return be fully unopened and unused.

you are entitled to examine yhe goods the same as you would in the shop.

You cannot plug a fridge in in the shop before you buy it.

Your fridge now counts as used.

So every fridge thats ever been delivered is 'used' if its been turned on?

If it has been "installed" then it is used?

When you say it has been sat in the property "unused" do you mean the guy plugged it in to test it was working and then it was unplugged and unused or do you mean it has been running for that time but not used in the sense you have not been storing food in it?

They also say unopened, presumably the guy didnt plug it in whilst it's still wrapped in the transportation material? Normally its cut off so even if they didnt take it away (which I assume they did) its not like it can be wrapped back in the same material

Like most large white goods, it was delivered off the truck unwrapped with no box. There was taping to stop the doors opening, which Currys' delivery guy removed while checking it over and turning it on.

He turned it back off when he left saying leave it at least 4 hours. It was then off til I switched it back on a few days ago, to give it time to get to temperature etc before I moved in. Then I got the news about my job that meant I wont be moving there at all. Nothing's been stored in it.

I'm not clear on the 'opened' element when products like this arrive with no packaging. It wasnt wrapped or boxed, just had small pieces of taping to stop the doors opening in transit. If they advertise an extension to return rights over Christmas I may be missing something but I dont understand how it doesnt apply. If Id been using it for 6 weeks fair enough. Its had no use.

Im not claiming its faulty. I did examine it and it was fine. Noone is going to accept a new fridge without plugging it in to check its working are they? Genuinely trying to see Currys' stance in here in light of the returns extension.
