That bag is lovely.
The 'scraps' look very well coordinated and of similar hues. Not at all "ugly".

@Sea_Shell - as there are 5 strands together they all seem to blend in and I must admit I was quite surprised how it became uniform colour - it is also quite sturdy and doesn’t stretch when I have heavy stuff in it and pick it up. I did hope it would be more colourful but needed more, brighter, scraps lol

This is how "ugly" my scrap yarn project is looking so far!!
I can either keep going, bigger and bigger, or make large squares and then join them.

Going back to this bag... questions, if I may...
What thickness yarn was each strand, DK?
Which size hook did you use?
How much does it weigh, ie can you estimate how much yarn it took?
I'm really interested in attempting something similar, but maybe with just 3 strands of DK. Saw a really good tip as to how to use 3 strands together from the same ball.

@Sea_Shell sorry for delay in replying - life.
My bag in piccy used DK scraps but have done others using mixed weights as it really does not matter - the hook size you choose as what you are after is a firm, close stitch like when you crochet toys you stuff. I think I used a 6 hook but not sure. As long as the thickness of all the strands together stays consistent throughout and your hook size gives a tight stitch it should be fine.
If, for example, you only have really thin yarn to add to a strand that has come to the end (one of the strands making up the bundle you are crocheting with) you could tie 2 strands of the thin strand to the thicker strand that had come to the end - as long as the overall thickness is consistent all the way through it works (at least that is my experience).

Thanks.
I tried 3 strands of DK, with a 7mm hook, and it seemed to work.
I might order some specific thick yarn/cord to make one though, as, being a beginner it should be easier dealing with just one thread😉
I've started on a mosaic small panel (from the Sea Littles), and I have realised one crucial thing, very quickly...
I can either follow the chart, or...
Read the written instructions, however,
Being left handed, I can't do both!!!
I need to read the instructions right to left, if I follow a chart left to right 😁

@ Sea_Shell - that is what I like about crochet it is easy to experiment and it is very forgiving (and easy to frog). Lol to chart/written instructions - I just get lost with a chart as in my head I am trying to turn it into written.
Do show what yarn you get for your bag and glad your 3 strands crochet went well - close up of how my tension/stitches look in bag with top right being the part where the handle is.

I think it's called T-shirt yarn. Sort of like bungee cord 😉
Not sure how much I need, so will order one 300g ball, and see how far it goes.
My mosaic has turned out quite good, but I think I've made a hash of the envelope border...have to rewatch some tutorials.
