But does it really need all those things? I'd get a few more quotes if I were you. And be clear that you're just asking about the roof. I'm sure there are other options for lighting and guttering, and the velux sounds optional.

My parents originally had a tiled roof on a small conservatory, but then had a larger one with a polycarbonate roof. My dad installed solar fans in the roof which I think were intended for boats. Probably something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166305966429?

I was thinking about the brise soleil for a couple of windows here. They are west facing, and get absolutely no sun in winter, but are getting a significant amount at the moment.

They'd look really weird on the front windows (which are south facing), so I'm going to have to think of other options. Growing plants up the walls would help, but I've had massive spider problems (both the size and number) here before and I'm an arachnophobe, so I need to think very carefully about plants on the walls (there have also been mouse problems, so mouse ladders are also to be avoided). Suggestions welcomed!

I'm certainly going to look into it. Although I was hoping to stop spending money and start working less!

The plants in our front garden are growing nicely and definitely provide some shade from the morning sun. In the back its a different story as we have a patio directly outside the french doors and kitchen window. I wish we'd thought about it before because we probably could have had a pergola built across it and I've seen lots of sail/blind type things that are run between the pergola beams to provide shade - would shade the windows too. I really like the idea of the brise soleil, I'm also thinking of trying to make some kind of foldable awning for our BBQ shelter which could flip down but also extend out over the kitchen window when its sunny - got to get my thinking cap on for that.
