What string do you use for your toms/cucs in the greenhouse? The jute twine I have for general use in the garden rotted last year when I tried to use it to support crops.

I saw that on your thread but didn’t comment as I did also use jute twine … 🤷‍♀️ I did use a branded version though and I know it never got wet at any point so maybe that helped?

Edited to add: The other thing I have done in the past, is to double the length of it, so don’t bother knotting it on the greenhouse frame, but literally loop it over.

I was wondering whether there were different thicknesses, or some that were more waterproof than others! Mine got wet at the bottom - the instructions I followed last year said to secure the twine under the roots when you transplanted the tomato. So maybe that was the problem.

Yeh, I see Monty doing that every year and I remain deeply sceptical! 🤣 I have never put the twine under the roots and he uses twine that's strong enough to land whales with! 🫨

I wonder where he gets the whale-twine from? 🤣

He also says give them a good soak once a week, but mine are in pots and might not be happy with that (although I can see it working on the outdoor ones).

Atm I am watering every other day or so. I am gardening with thin silty soil as opposed to his richly composted clay and my plants are still weeny atm (tallest is c. 14" high). If it gets warm (20C+) I go to watering every morning, partly for the roots but also to increase the humidity in there. I've never had issues with over watering.
