Monday has started dull & overcast with the forecast for more of the same with sunny intervals as we make our way to Perth. Slept quite well only two bathroom visits - 03:15 & 06:30 before getting up at 08:00 We had almost finished packing before we went to breakfast. Usual high standard with DH having a Full Scottish whilst I had the same minus the black pudding, tatie scone & tomato + toast & marmalade + our usual coffee & juice. We are now back in our room having a sit down before finishing the last little bits of packing & setting off. We will be on the road by 10:00
Please all stay safe & hydrated during the current heatwave 🙏 See you later 👋

Roofer has been and turns out he knew our dad which is earning us a ‘nice family discount’ on the quote. Dad used to check over a load of the local small builders accounts and write letters for them in exchange for a couple of pints when I was little.
Any discount will be gratefully received and it’s not bad going seeing as our dad died nearly 23 years ago.
He’s also going to have a good rummage round his yard for some ‘nice second hand caps and cowls’ rather than the cheap modern ones and replace a false rafter board which has rotted, apparently it’s a fiddly job as some of the tiles will need to be stripped back first but very doable.

Morning all.
Middle daughter said last night that her blinds don't stop the sun in her flat - she might need curtains. She has been in that flat over 10 years and has managed with vertical blinds and voile drapes at the side for decoration. I am finding my vertical blinds are really keeping the craft room cool. Daughter has a flat that gets very warm.
I have been sorting out stuff from the old office - I can see where I have taken stuff out of the room.
I have to say - I am a craft hoarder! I have so much yarn. I am sorting out more yarn for bestie's charity shop,
J will be here tomorrow - hope he gets all the walls finished in the downstairs hall and on the landing. All the rails have to be fitted back in place - they have been painted. There is a lot of woodwork to paint - 6 doors on the landing and 3 downstairs. Then there is the loft hatch, skirting boards, stair rail which wasn't removed and sides of the stairs to paint.
J will be here on Wednesday as well this week.
I am going to phone the shop and book a date for the stair and landing carpet to be fitted.
My sofa and footstool arrives at the delivery hub on Thursday.

Monday continued: we ended up setting off at 10:15 after DH chatted to the receptionist about the best place to get petrol. DH had intended to go to an sm station but the receptionist advised there were roadworks & she knew of a cheaper garage which was in the direction we were heading - Win/Win 🥳 First stop was for petrol. It stayed overcast but dry for the rest of the morning & up to 13:00 when the drizzle started - sometimes heavy, sometimes light but persistent until 14:30 The only stops we made were for landmarks - 2 new & 8 old - as we didn’t find anywhere suitable to stop for coffee & cake 😞 We arrived at The Holiday Inn Express in Perth at 15:40. DH made coffee as soon as we were in our room & then we just relaxed for a while then repacked our bags dirty clothes in one bag & what is left of the clean clothes in the other bag. After that we showered & changed. I have read my weekly magazine & DH is listening to a motorcycling podcast. It is still overcast but all in all despite the drizzle, the weather today hasn’t been too bad.
Today’s menagerie: jackdaws, blackbirds, cows, sheep, horses, ponies & finally TWO chickens 🥳 I have forgotten to mention that over course of our trip I have seen a large number of bees ☺️ & also white foxgloves!
GrannyKate, sounds like it was too hot to do anything more than you did 👏 Keeping everything crossed that your swimming pool gives you one more summer’s service 🤞Your DD is well organised, she must have inherited the gene from you 🥹 Your Sox tale had me giggling away especially This“….He could of course have walked round the bungalow and jumped in the open window but doesn’t have that many brain cells.” 🙊🤣
florianatwobob, what a brilliant result 🥳 your dad is still looking out for you even now 🥹
Florencee, very pleased to hear that you are finally noticing a difference in the old office ☺️ It sounds like your constant & continuing commitment to decluttering is paying off 👏🥳 Sounds like young J is doing a sterling job with the decorating 🤩 I need to start polishing up a gold star ⭐️ for him - ready to award once the non woodwork painting is completed 😉
Excellent work with the sales BlueJ94 👏 Please remember not to overdo it in the heat 🙏
DH & I are heading next door to the pub for dinner. See you later 👋

Have you heard of petrolprices.com to search for cheapest petrol/diesel? You can very easily find cheapest fuel using current location o r by postcode etc.

Evening all. I did my trip out this morning ticking a lot of boxes on the way. The tip was quite quiet but it looks less like Steptoes outside my back door. I called in vets, football shop and bought too much at Mr T. I did get a cheap plastic outdoor mat to put by the pool and hopefully reduce amount of grass going in there. I also found a nice birthday card for DGS1's 21st next month. Most 'masculine' cards made reference to drinks and drinking but he does not drink alcohol at all.
630 Carload to the tip - most already counted except new things below
631 Some old plastic fencing to tip
632-4 Three bags of building rubble to tip - the other bags are too heavy so I'll need to split them up
635 Old rubbish bin with no lid to tip
636 Collected pack of 3 worm/flea treatments from vet
637 Visited local football team shop to get shirt DGD4 wants for her birthday this week
Garden visit tomorrow - I will take my hat, stick and bottled water. Sox is very fed up with the heat and just moves from one place to another flopping down.

Around 70 tickets for the strawberry tea had been sold. It was held in the garden behind the hall. We sat under a tree - shady and there was a gentle breeze.
A friend and I carried trays of tea and then strawberries and scones to our table.
I was booked to help in the kitchen drying up. We had paper bowls and plates - I was told that last year it was all china. There was enough to wash and dry with the cups & saucers plus knives and spoons.
Came home with bestie.
I have been sitting and knitting - watching hoarder programmes as therapy - to carry on with my declutter.
I have filled more bags with yarn and I have a lot of fabric to donate.

Monday continued: the pub (The Maltings) really is next door, took just a few minutes to walk round. Before I tell you about tonight’s dinner, I have photos of last night’s main courses 😉Tonight we were pleasantly surprised 😊 DH had Karaage Chicken with an aioli dip followed by a Balmoral Chicken burger with spicy fries whilst I had a wild boar scotch egg followed by a Camembert & mushroom galette* with salad & crispy crushed new potatoes. Delicious 😋 * see photo + each had a couple of beers.
We were back in our room by 20:45peewhyeff, thanks for the information about the website 👏
GrannyKate, an excellent morning’s work 👏 DGS1 sounds like a very sensible young man 🥹 My DSis is probably doing the same as Sox 🙊
I am just about to go downstairs & make use of the coffee machine then will have an early night. Please all take care tomorrow when the temperatures are supposed to be even higher 🙏 Sleep tight 😴

Oh they weren’t wrong. Today has been way too warm. The biggest problem is that our modern house has way way way too much insulation so the heat can’t escape and inside just gets hotter. Even just a small thing in the roof that you could open to let the heat escape and get a breeze through would help. Am not looking forward to the temperatures they are forecasting for the rest of the week. DH and I just can’t handle heat any more, not just age but being disabled doesn’t help.
I’m glad that the youngsters (mostly) at the IOW a festival will have enjoyed it not pouring with rain but imagine there are quite a few very sore bodies - and heads - this morning.
Am loving @Mrs_Salad_Dodger holibobs. Drive safe.
Everyone else, please take care in this heat, don’t overdo it and stay hydrated and out of the sun. Sweet dreams all xxSaving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal
