i disappeared months ago due to several factors. Am now back but unfortunately I'm waiting for a brain tumor being removed I just don't know when yet.
Hope everyone is doing ok and hugs congratulations and happy new year to you all x30 -
Gosh! I popped a quick post in here and am just passing through again and what a lot of decluttering and life has been going on!Good luck all of you, especially with health problems, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stop by too often. It takes too much decluttering time!;-) Glorious sunny day here and my solar is topping up the immersion tank, but I need to get on and outside. I've managed to book a slot at the dump tomorrow and we all know how satisfying a tip run can be so no jealousy please.. Off to make it even more worthwhile..20

Having a bit of a lazy weekend, so plenty of time for mini tidying/decluttering. I'm almost through the pile of xmas paper - most of which has been salvaged for future present wrapping and some scraps to be used for xmas card making. The xmas decorations and tree will be packed up later (this is DS's job). Hoping to start the task of wearing my winter wardrobe from Monday as I'll be back in the office so I have a wider variety of clothes I will wear throughout the week.Digital:
2 - filed emails deleted
Physical:
1 - sticker sheet used up
2 - packaging reused
1 - candlestick holder I don’t use (Buy Nothing)
1 - gift wrap that can’t be salvaged (recycled)
1 - plastic hanging thingy I won’t use (charity bag)New total 24
Use it up total 11Off to make an orange and apricot loaf cake for the tlc carriage. Happy decluttering everyone!Edit: Almost forgot, but I saved the end of candle wax that you get as well as the metal tea light containers and bought myself some spare wicks. Last night I then made myself some new to me tea lights with the leftover wax. Cheap and cheerful. I do like lighting candles in the winter evenings. I am awarding myself a 🤑 for a creative and frugal use of what I have.2026 decluttering: 59 🤑🥉 ⭐️

I just can't help myself! The words had barely hit the screen about distracting myself and I veered away from Christmas decorations to lets just take this broken blind down in the spare room and put up a pair of curtains! The Christmas decorations are down but not away. I will enjoy that job when Mr V is at work tonight. The trees will have to go in the loft but I have earmarked a chest of drawers for the other decorations. Over the years my family have given me lovely soaps. I just can't throw the boxes away so use them for delicate decorations.
I looked through my craft cupboard for some wool for a DGS jumper and found a bag of fabric that can go in the recycling.
Granny Kate, I also have a room by room jobs snagging list. Monday is the best day for us so we will have a go in one room each week and try and get stuff done. We are not at the decorating stage, just still at the putting curtain poles and pictures up.
The house looks bare now. I never got round to unpacking many decorative things since the move then holiday then Christmas.I will enjoy finding homes for things and that should release the last 2 boxes from the move. Well in the house that is. Goodness knows whats been shoved in the various sheds by the removal people.
I am intent on using stuff up this year and buying second hand where I can. I have a figure of £100 in mind to furnish and finish each room in the house. That doesn't include decorating or flooring. It does include furniture, curtains, lamp shades etc. I have almost finished each room now. No more furniture needed, just waiting for an odd lampshade to present itself and we will be done. I am considering selling a couple of pieces of furniture, both were second hand. Once I start to think something can go, it's usually on borrowed time!
I do like the house to be tidy and it is sometimes a struggle to put things away. It really isn't a lack of storage space problem, it's a too many belongings problem. Clothes are my achilles heel.
My Mother gave me a pile of stuff last year. I have no inclination to look at it. It seems to be photo's,greetings cards n shiz. It is however making me feel guilty. It is on my list but I have no interest to do it. I do need to do something about my phone, it has now stopped all calls. Sourcing another phone is another thing I have no interest in.
We are forecast quite a lot of snow over the next few days , so no need to go out gadding. We need to stop in and get some jobs done. Saying that it will probably be half hour of jobs and the rest of the day knitting and watching the snow from the new sitting room window. The cats are showing their age. They want to go out but it's too cold, They try different doors in the hope someone has switched the outside heating on.
Weenancy, we are all with you in spirit.
Is it time to call on the missionaries and your sister again?
Floss, losing a pet is hard, they are family members.xx
LiverpoolAnne, I fold the duvets back too to air the beds. I got that from an Austrian friend of my Mum's, she went a step further and hung duvets out of the bedroom windows! this was the 60's when no one in England even knew what a duvet was!
Crazy cat lady2, do keep posting and lovely pets btw.xxx
Next tip trip, a Venetian blind, a dead pillow and a bag of fabric scraps.

PS Snowing thick and fast now. I love it.
Mr V removed a nest of BT telephone gubbins from the hall. Next in my sights, one or two of the doorbells, there seem to be 3. We haven't worked out which wires are for which doorbell yet. They do all work. I am not a fan of wires everywhere so the messiest ones can go.
Sadly my favourite coffee mug was chipped when the washer lurched into a violent spin and caused a washing up mountain avalanche.:18 -
I went to the freezer for the last 2 chicken breasts and realised there was only half a bag of chicken dippers some peas spinach and small mixed fruit in there. So freezer is now cleaned out and defrosted and ready for a bulk shop at some point soon.
we were away for Christmas as Grandpa can no longer travel so we went to them. This last week we have been out for dinner a few times with friends, and birthday lunch so have hardly been in. I spot 1mince pie and a chocolate orange in the cupboard that’s it for Christmas treats!I admit the tins drawer is half full, but otherwise I haven’t got loads of pantry items to use up, it’s all looking a bit sparse!I need a big fruit and veg shop as after our Sunday dinner there won’t be much left, enough for LO and my fruit snacks for school / work and a bit of salad. So overall not too much to declutter from the kitchen !20 -

Sunday is another bright sunny day with a high of 2°C, low of -3°C & a W wind.DH is quite tired as he stayed up watching the last Test - although rain stopped play at about 04:00. Straight into cheerleading as I am still playing catch up:
Of course you can join in C_Charlie 😊 I look forward to seeing you post a bit more with your decluttering progress 😊
Welcome back I_Love_comps 👋 of course you can join in 😊
Lovely to see you vulpix 👋 You had such a busy 2025 & did a lot of work on your new home 👏 & I see that you have another busy year planned 😉 Please remember to find time for yourself 🙏 I am looking forward to following your house renovations journey with a few photos along the way ☺️ especially of the garden once it is cleared. Now that Christmas & New Year are over & presumably MrV won’t be out working so much, I am hoping that he will be lending a hand 😉
daisy_1571, I love it - back to the 1980s ☺️ just a pity it won’t be 1980s prices 😉
surprisinglynice, I have made a note of your goals for the year & look forward to following your progress ☺️ Hopefully your research into the medication will help you find practical ways to manage the “horrendous side effects” 🙏
BlueJ94, well done on resisting any temptation to buy new makeup 👏
Watty1, a good start to your decluttering campaign 👏 & very pleased to hear that you managed to find your dog’s painkillers 😊
So pleased to see you dND 🥹 👋 & no need to ‘sneak back’ as you are always welcome ☺️ I am sorry to hear that RL got a bit overwhelming 😔 although I am happy that your son helped with a Tip run 😊 & hopefully any heavy lifting 🤞 I am hoping that mention of “wildlife overwintering in the remaining heap (of garden waste)” means that you have a hedgehog 🙏🤞 Good luck with This “If anything, I think my main decluttering this year will be of anything that makes life difficult - e.g., backlog of filing/paperwork that in turn clutters my desk which means I don't have space to deal with anything, etc., etc..” 🍀 & after the last few years (moving from France & major house renovations) I do believe you have chosen a perfect New Year Resolution “ I think my New Year Resolution is to reduce stress in my life.” you absolutely deserve a less stressful life to share with the cats 🥹
I need a refill as my cup is empty! I will post this & be back shortly 👋 I hope everyone is managing to stay warm 🙏

Happy Sunday!
My teacher brother & SiL visited on Friday, so I passed on 4 permanent markers & 2 full packs of Zebra pens that I had stashed in my desk drawer when still working. As I still have lots around the house + another full pack, I don't need to keep them! They also took 2 gifted boxes of Malteser truffles which I don't like 😉 and has left me with treats to be slowly enjoyed over the next few months.
I've also begun a pile of jumpers for the chazzer, after trying two new ones (returned to Next) and several others to find one I was happy to wear yesterday! I will carry on & work through more things over the next few weeks.
And I finally found the bottom of the ironing basket! A couple of tops have been put into the 'one size down' drawer, one in the chazzer bag, two have gone with the Christmas tops bag and I have a pile to put away.
Good to see regulars, old names & newbies - we don't keep track of when you visit so don't feel obliged to pop in! Just remember that it's not a race & there's no speed awards, but slow considered decluttering of things can give lasting results & a changed mindset. Make friends with the staff at your tip & local chazzers, as you're likely to be regular visitors!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Wow this thread is moving fast! First declutter of the year from the drawer everything seems to get dumped in:
- Various menus/Christmas menus/junk mail
- A pair of plastic sunglasses with 30 written on them
- A couple of small sentimental bits
Earlier in the thread someone mentioned decluttering relationships that no longer serve us. I am going to do this. I have one relationship in mind where after my last visit I came away thinking 'never again'. No big fall out, I just won't be getting in touch with them.
Another suggestion was decluttering habits that no longer serve us. A big one for me is leaving the kitchen a mess that I then have to face in the morning. I had started working on this last year but it fell by the wayside so that is going to be a focus going forward.Frugal Living challenge 2026
