Good evening everyone, I have discovered this thread from the main page of the forum and would like to join if I may, please?
I am fed up of falling over things which are on the floor, because there's no room for them on sofas or surfaces, because I don't have the motivation to start doing anything about them - or even if I have the motivation to start, I can't quite bring myself to decide what to do about the things I have got out, so they just sit there too (my kitchen has loads of the various plastic tubs, tupperware, takeaway boxes, which I got out yesterday and can't find space to put away - can they be recycled?!).
It's like one of those puzzles, where you have to move pieces of an image around until they display properly - and have one square vacant to enable you to move them around!
So, no specific list (it would be too long and feel overwhelming) but I will try to stay motivated and take the small wins where I can - thanks for everyone's encouragement of each other

@Yorkie1 ive always chucked my plastic tubs in recycling and theyve always been taken 🙂

decluttered 2 kitchen drawers then red cross delivery chaps arrived - 1 small sideboard up in bedroom for bedside and lovely (and very sturdy so heavy!) glasses cabinet in music room. And they took a chest of drawers surplus to requirements and 2 pictures left by lodger many moons ago. Hooray. Gave them some chocolates as a thankyou so they are also decluttered :P
have now moved all glasses and vases into glass cabinet (it has 9 shelves and has taken the lot) and the place mats into one of the 3 shallow drawers. And such is its sturdiness not a single glass moved. I am very very happy!20*25 for 2025: 489 / 50025 -
Evening all!
I'd like to re-join, please - I was here a few years ago, but need to get back on track. My MH (like many others) is better when the house and everything is less crazy. My job is pressured and busy and often 50+ hours/ week logged (let alone unlogged hours) and I also suffer from fatigue as a result of cancer treatment a few years ago/ ongoing cancer-related meds, so often run out of energy by the time I finish work.
I lost over 4 stone last year, so that's where most of my to-be-v1nted pile comes from. I will look to sell these, as this funds my new wardrobe from V1nted
I like counting things so my goals are:- Declutter 2026 physical items. I have a pile to list on V1nted/ give to CS/ list on fb00k, as well as the usual bin/ recycle etc. I am going to include toiletries/ beauty items here where I have a stash (eg: I have a spare can of hairspray, as current one is almost empty, so that isn't a stash. 9 bottles of shower gel (or similar) IS a stash...) and cleaning products where I have a stash (I may have around 50 bottles of M3th0d and In30s cleaning products in the garage....
) - Get rid of 20026 digital items (I have waaay too many unread emails and items on the V1rg1n tv box) - unsubscribing from emailing lists will be the '26' of that target
- lose 26lb (this includes the 4lb put on over Xmas... oops)
- Get some of the jobs around the house and garden done. There are lots of small and medium ones and this year's plan is for 3 big (and costly) ones including new drive and some garden hard landscaping.
Declutter 2026
1 - 3. Pairs of socks binned (1 pr with a hole, 1 pair worn very thin at the heels, 1 pair really annoying and I don't wear them because they always slip down) (I think I have another pair of the annoying ones, so they will follow the same way when I get them out of the drawer)
4-5. 2 new body puff things donated to DD (I still have 6 or 7 of them in the bathroom cod...)
6. 1 bottle of bathroom cleaner finished (so 1 brought in from the stash)
7. tube of tinted moisturiser binned (had approx 1 remaining use left in it after I'd cut the tube open, but this had dried out)
8. around 20 sticky/ jelly Xmas window clings binned - they are several years old (probably about 6, truth be told) and degrade after a while - these were the remaining ones left.
9-10. Pair of Xmas cushions to DD.
Digital Declutter 20026
1- 20.. Around 25 programmes deleted from V1rgin box, but I didn't count them whilst doing it, so only going for 20 (I know it was more than that)(it's a start!)
26lb weightloss
Food for work tomorrow ready in fridge - in order to avoid Xmas junk! Hopefully next week will see some progress here...

Any plastic thing that can be recycled will have the triangle of arrows with a number in the middle to tell the recycler what kind of plastic that is made of.Yorkie1 said:Good evening everyone, I have discovered this thread from the main page of the forum and would like to join if I may, please?

If your council tells its people what numbers it recycles you should only put things with those numbers into your recycling. Anything that they don't recycle (and everything that doesn't have a ♻️ on it) should go in your landfill bucket.
Apart from that heres a pick n mix of ideas created by the declutterati over the years -
start small.
Start literally where you stand.
Never walk out a room empty handed, getting things back to where they belong (or near it if there's no space there just now) will help.
Get a box/bag and put everything that you can see in the room you are currently in that is proper rubbish then get it out to your bucket - even if you only do this every couple of days it must start clearing some space for you.
Set a timer for 5 minutes and start putting lids on those plastic tubs - any with no lids or lids with no box can go - have the bucket/bag beside you and put them straight in not onto another surface. Stop after the 5 minutes if you don't want to carry on.
If you still feel you want to carry on set the timer for another 5 minutes.
Good luck, it will get easier, you'll get lots of encouragement here and you'll get lots of ideas and everyone eventually finds a sentence or idea that clicks with them, there's as many ways to motivate yourself as there are declutterati 😆

ccl lovely pictures, so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, hope op date is soon
Floss gorgeous bathroom
Liverpool_Anne I think her idea isn't to completely do any space but to stop after the half hour knowing you have a plan to get back to that area so as you say it will gradually get to then stay at a level that's easy to deal with. We air the bed for a couple of hours then straighten the downies out so the bed looks tidy again 😴
Hugs to any other poorlies I've missed

Just catching up!
Has been a busy weekend of sorting and planning. Packed Christmas away yesterday which was a delight and makes everything seem tidier.
Today I have listed a load of stuff on Vinted so hopefully that will be out of the door soon.
We're having new bedroom floors fitted on Wednesday so it's going to be chaos emptying 3 bedrooms at once but I'm hoping it will give me the chance to get rid of some things.
Only had the tiniest amount of snow much to DC's disappointment.
Back to school for 2 out of 3 tomorrow and back to work for me which I'm dreading. My natural body clock is to go to bed well past midnight and get up mid morning so I think this week will be a real struggle to get back into a routine.Unsecured debts total -

I took ten books to Petworth yesterday and only brought one home 🙄
Not my home but did a load of washing for elderly friend yesterday after visiting some from hospital and some I'm trying to empty her laundry basket. Whilst her washing was on I emptied her fridge of going off veg and out of date stuff. I did some general tidying as well.
My sister has my car tomorrow and as it's forecast to be very cold i have no plans to go out, I have some financial frogs to do which may be put off if I can gather the emergency to tackle my clothes 🫣Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin21 -
@boultdj ~ I'll take some sausage rolls, yummy x
@Floss ~ The dressing gown is going back!! I figured that the money is technically "free" as the dressing gown was bought with my ebay balance and not real money. TBH I wasn't totally pleased with the fit anyway, it felt weird. So it's off to the post office tomorrow and I'll get the sewing needle out and try to mend the old one.
Decs are now down and waiting to go back in the attic. Christmas cards have been made into tags and the backs have been recycled, so counting this as #9.
Still no sign of the drill, still another week off work (yay). Pantry challenge is going well. Sprouts and swede used up with pork steaks. I'm not including food in this challenge, but may include some very old bottles and tins. Discretion will be used
