@Crazycatlady2 - sending you a lot of hugs from America. Take it easy.
Want to warn anyone thinking they can just throw out a box of "junk" without looking at it. My roommate Di almost did that when we were moving her out of her house. I insisted we check them all. In one of the boxes was a beautiful handmade Hawaiian quilt and two old menus from the Lorelei in 1940. The quilt is actually the most valuable thing her parents left. A box in of donation to our local library that just contained a "bunch of old books" that no one wanted to bother with actually contained several first editions worth several hundred dollars, if not more. And we are always getting books from people that they can't be bothered to look at that contain dollar bills (or even twenty dollar bills or more) that have been used at bookmarks. We have had first edition Ernest Heminway books and others in boxes people just wanted to toss also. Check carefully.24 -
Hi all,
Sunday according to my rota is kitchen so after heading out to bnq for the wood filler early enough to miss the snow though I did get hailed on 😁 I headed into the kitchen and decided to tackle the fridge. I found various bits of veg lurking so gathered them together, along with some veg on the veg rack and started peeling and chopping while watching the footy on tv. We seemed to have loads as we have both been not really eating much due to the lurgy and it needed dealing with. Sprouts peeled, blanched and portioned up into the freezer, carotts peeled, chopped, blanched and into the freezer, parsnips peeled and turned into parsnip soup. The cabbage and swede still waiting to be sorted. The parsnip soup is in the fridge for lunch tomorrow and I have plans to make a big batch of veg stew with other bits and some things from the freezer.
2 covid tests decluttered, both negative 😁 but they are close to expiry date so we need to get some more. OH has been told that we must have them and if OH ever tests positive must contact the consultant. I think with OH's medical condition we can get some free so will investigate that further.
Meanwhile OH said the car boot would need to be emptied for the MOT tomorrow. I thought the bags in the lr were it but oh no there was more! After some nagging to get them in before it got dark OH unloaded them into the hallway. OH had been pleased with the efforts yesterday so I suggested we continued sorting the stuff in the hallway. 2 bags sorted and consolidated into 1 plastic storage box. Lots binned, recycled and put into the bag of hard plastic to go to the tip but still 4 bags to sort through. I honestly don't know how it all fitted in the boot. So lr bin emptied 3 times!, Lr recycling and kitchen recycling were emptied.
2 loads of washing on to the maiden though there is another load waiting but no room to dry it yet so it will wait.
Fortunately tomorrow is porch and hallway so those bags will be sorted then 😁 along with all the other stuff that has landed on the gas cupboard 🙄.
@kr147 welcome aboard 😁
@Crazycatlady2 big hugs, hope you don't have to wait too long for the op and I love the photos
@QueenJess I use the ends of candles to make fire lighters 😁. Cake sounds scrummy thank you 😁
@Vulpix I also have a thing for nice boxes, also tins 😁, looking at a lovely tin with a robin on and a musical one that both came in as gifts this year 😂. They will lurk until I find a use for them 😂. I have a neighbour who hangs her pillows out of the window in the summer, must be a reason for it but I just can't remember 😁. Duvets came in here in the mid 70s iirc but before that we had eiderdowns which were basically duvets but used on top of the blankets, so warm and snuggly in those pre central heating days 😁. I chip mugs regularly, I am down to only 4 but am refusing to buy more until the kitchen is done and I have somewhere that is not the lr to store them 😂
@Floss as a retired teacher I can testify to how much we love pens of any kind 😂. I bet you made their day 😂. I am not sure my ironing basket has a bottom it's so long since I saw it 😂
@tibawo big hugs, hope you don't have to wait too long for a scan.
@Yorkie1 welcome aboard 😁. Check your local authority website to see what you can recycle. Here we can only put bottle shaped plastics in the curbside bin but I collect any other hard plastic and take it to the tip where they have a skip for it 😁
@daisy_1571 that's my plan 😁
Right time to get some sleep, up early tomorrow as I am chauffeuring OH back from the garage.
Hugs to everyone who would like one
27 & 28 covid tests
29 - 31 lr bin
32 kitchen recycling
33 lr recycling

Sunday: So much for coming back shortly 😬 I managed to finish off the hat & cast on another one. See pic of 3 hats

Forgot to mention that the recycling wheelie bin was emptied this morning 🥳 I did a bit of cheerleading before breaking off to start prepping dinner. DH peeled all the vegetables including sprouts. As it was quite late, I started cooking dinner - roast beef, roast potatoes, parsnips & carrots, cabbage, sprouts with bacon bits & chestnuts, Yorkshire puddings & hm gravy. Delicious 😋 Apart from a couple of pans that are soaking I have done the wudupa. DSis & I finally got around to watching Graham Norton’s New Year’s Eve show 🙂 Very entertaining.
18 - 21 Kitchen recycling, plastic bottle, glass bottle, drinks cans - recycled
22 Kitchen detritus - binned
Lovely post GrannyKate 😊 I think This “I am going to wander round the house and garden with a note pad and make a list of perhaps 10 major jobs which I will allocate '50' points to if they get completed this year. Hopefully I may get at least half of them done starting with the 'done' rooms and little bits and pieces not completed” is an absolutely brilliant idea 🤩 I do hope DGS4 didn’t eat you out of house & home on New Year’s Day 😉
Willowtree222, an excellent start to your 2026 decluttering journey 👏
Wednesday2000, sorry to hear that you woke up feeling rubbish on New Year’s Day 😔 So well done on starting to tackle the wardrobe 👏…….. a great result from your wardrobe sort out 🥳 I must admit that the yellow trainers are somewhat bright 😎
London_1, sounds like an absolutely perfect New Year’s Eve ☺️ & a quiet & relaxing New Year’s Day 😊 I love the idea that your DD & her friend think they have 3 left feet each 🤭 Good luck with the vegetable plot 🍀

Great work Willowtree222 👏 you are on a roll 🙂 Hope you have a lovely time 😊
BlueJ94, a cooked breakfast sounds 😋 Good luck in the room of doom 🍀
Welcome back elly68 👋 Sounds like you are fired up to make 2026 a great decluttering year 😊
florianatwobob, fingers crossed you managed to top up the Ziffit box 🤞
Great decluttering Ms_Potato_Head 👏 I do hope they were custard creams 🙊
twinklie, an expensive start to the New Year’s Eve 😖 but at least 2 of the expenses were good ones - paying the allotment fees & overpaying the mortgage 👏 What a pain having to make another Tip trip ☹️
EcoIntent, an excellent day’s work 👏 & impressed that your DD is joining in with the decluttering 😊
BlueJ94, I love This “Got a huge bag for donation, I’ve decided to smash down a wardrobe so I have to declutter a lot of my clothes! 😂” 🤩 Don’t forget to count what is in the bag 😉 Smashing down a wardrobe sounds like great fun 🙂
Welcome back Mrs_Money_Penny 👋 Good luck with your decluttering 🍀
Welcome aboard the EDT SeekingFlight 👋 lovely to see another new face 😊 I will keep everything crossed that, once the renovations are complete & you start unpacking, you will be very firm & redistribute everything that you haven’t missed for 3 months 🤞
Welcome back Soontobeoap 👋 lovely to see you 😊 Some great aims for the year & I am looking forward to following your progress & celebrating your successes ☺️
Welcome back SpikyHedgehog 👋 Looking forward to celebrating your successes 😊 & keeping everything crossed that you can get elder DS on board 🤞😉 especially with removing the deer skull 😟
daisy_1571, I remember the box of rocks 🤣
twinklie well done 👏 & you have prompted me to take down the Christmas cards & string 😉
Moorviews, you are very welcome & thank you for my 🙏 & 💐 I absolutely adore This “I am in for 2026 and there won’t be numbers or specific areas named in advance. It seems that I am best to launch an unheralded attack on my clutter! Once it knows that I am coming for it something happens to sabotage me. Opportunistic forays into clutter ridden spaces will henceforth be my tactic for 2026.” 🥰 & This “An aspect that will continue will be the analysis of what carries meaning for me now, rather than holding on to old things for the sake of it. I recently wore a very old dress but I still love it, it still suits me and who I am. There are many other items that won’t pass that test and I intend to move them on as much as I can.” is a brilliant method of decluttering clothing with no regrets 🤩
daisy_1571, “guerilla decluttering 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣” what an absolutely marvellous & pithy description of Moorviews method of decluttering 🤩
I am flagging now so will post & head to bed. Sleep tight everyone 😴

Morning all,
Had an awful nights sleep! I went to bed at 9.30 knowing I had to be alive and functioning for 5.45. I didnt fall asleep gone 11.30pm as I was still mooching around on here. I woke up 20 minutes ago and I am so so tired. Determined to try and stay focused and awake as possible today!
Off to make a coffee and see what things I can declutter as I go!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe boards and spending & discounts boards. A few Christmas decorations decluttered as I am not really keen on them. I have a collection of china houses that you put tea lights in, but these are 2 wooden hous and a wooden Christmas tree that need batteries and it is a pain. They are not my style and have gone in the charity shop box.
We did one on DH's drawers, goodness it was hard work. Not wonder he doesn't make any progress in his shed. He holds on to everything. At least we found the glue to mend my glasses that he sat on as my spare pair were not good for driving as the coatings had all come off.21 -
Quick update too, whilst making coffee i poked my head out of the front window to check the weather as it said we were due snow so I put a screen cover on the works van and look.. but its very very cold this morning!

Morning all.
Awake at stupid o clock as normal but have put that time to good use, I just hope no one I have emailed this morning has their notifications on! Accounts all done for work for the next four weeks...yay me.
We have had a sprinkling of snow overnight, everywhere looks pretty.
Household rubbish bins being emptied today which is good but I can't wait for the recycling next week. I sorted through so much stuff that was being stored in boxes and have managed to get everything that I intend to keep into two very much smaller boxes. OH has already filled the recycling bin by doing the same. Swings and roundabouts I suppose
I've just realised that i can take my empty boxes into work later today as their recycling day is Tuesday and no one has been in so there will be lots of room. Another small win for today.
Sent over 30 items to DD that she didn't request but they have been gratefully received.
Kind thoughts are being sent to all those who are going through tough times.

I chuck my plastics (trays, bottles, yog pots, takeaway pots etc) into the 'hard plastics' skip at the tip, as my kerbside recycling doesn't collect them.daisy_1571 said:Any plastic thing that can be recycled will have the triangle of arrows with a number in the middle to tell the recycler what kind of plastic that is made of.
If your council tells its people what numbers it recycles you should only put things with those numbers into your recycling. Anything that they don't recycle (and everything that doesn't have a ♻️ on it) should go in your landfill bucket.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
